Ina PluralEyes roundtrip, it is jut metadata pointers to the existing media on the system where the events have been slipped on the tracks to be in sync with each other (changing timeline relationship to be in sync). When this AAF comes back, it just points to the existing media with the new relationships defined. From there, they can subclip out each of the events to create a subclip where it can point to two different sources.
If you go to the MediaTool, do you see any video assets at all?

If they are OP-1A, then you should be able to AMA link to them using the AMA plug-in. If that is indeed the case, I would move them out of the Avid MediaFiles folder structure.

Good point. If that is a concern, then create a new project from within MC. Close application and only copy the bin (.avb) from the old project to the new.

Also no need to exchange AAF files between systems. Just copy the entire project folder to the other system to start.

Try highlighting the clips in the bin and the sequence. Right click the sequnce and do a relink. In the relink dialogue box, select relink to selected and see what happens.

And depending on what version this project was started withm and if it is SD or HD with different settings, the audio may have been captured as OMF and not MXF and are in a folder called OMFI MediaFiles and not in the Avid MediaFiles folder with the picture files. If that folder is online at the root level of the media drive, then audio would be offline while picture is not.

I had no real issues other than the normal workflow ones associated with a roundtrip AAF and double system workflows. My test again was .mov from Canon 5D and double system BWF with 8 tracks.
I AMA linked to the .mov files and transcoded (in my case DNxHD36 proxy workflow). You need to make sure that everything is selected when trancoding – you want to bake in any color transforms, etc. or else you won’t be able to “autosync” sub-sequences later if that is what you want to do.
I imported audio, and to make sure things were easier, I sorted events in shoot order before adding to the timeline so there as some relative order to things. I exported the AAF Link to as described in the guide. When creating a new project via AAF in PluralEyes, I get the scratch track from my .mov and 1 track from the AAF timeine. I do not know whether this is the A1, or a representative mixdown, but it worked anyway. Once synced, I exported a new AAF, imported that in MC, and timeline now aligns the same way as in PluraEyes.
Now the next step is to subsequence out each event, autosync, and rename clip…

I will try the AAF method later today from an 8.3 Media Composer. My test files are .mov from Canon 5D and double system audio with 8 tracks. My first test was to use the PluralEyes only method whic syncs, then replaces existing audio with new audio in a new clip. This is non-destructive, but you need additional storage (2x the source). From an Avid perspective this one is easier as there is a one time AMA Link and you are done. Downside is you lose all metadata from BWF files.
In your process now, are your audio sources AMA linked, or imported?

There are two ways to do this, the first is the one you mention, but seem hesitant to use. It can be done at the AMA stage or after the transcode.
1. Select all clips,unlink, modify to tracks to VA1A2, then relink. This only changes the master clip relationship to the media, and does not delete the media.
2. Subclip VA1A2 from each clip. This could be done on a per clip basis which is quite tedious, or could be done as an ALE export/Import Merge process. Since v7.0.3. ALE merge is non-destructive to existing metadata already logged which makes this a very good alternative if you are comfortable with text editing. Open bin with master clips. Make sure Bin columns include Tape, Source File, Start, End, Tracks, Name. Select clips and export as ALE. In a text editor, replace the value found in tracks with VA1A2 (search and replace function). With clips still selected, go to import settings Shot Log” and select the one that says something along the lines of “merge with known sources and create subclips”. I am not in front of my system right now, but it will something like that. Bin will now have your original master clips, and then 1 new subclip for every master clip that is only VA1A2. Edit from those.
