It’s now public knowledge. Resellers pricing will adjust before shipping in June I’m sure. Better get your order in.These recorders can only record the frame rate they are provided. I don’t think there are any cameras spitting out 1080 60p via SDI.

So the fix is a plastic shim?

Dano,
I have 3-EX3 that were from the first shipments back last summer and we haven’t had any issues with the base plate receivers.
I would suspect those that have had issues have been when they have picked up the camera by the camera handle while the tripod was still attached and these receivers just can’t handle that load.
I’m very interested to this new improvement you have been on top of. It would be helpful to see some pictures posted here.
Thanks in advance

I’ve never seen one in my 28 years of film production, but I’d bet someone has made one. The challenge would be to make a dappling design that doesn’t move so there would need to be a second or third layer added to the rig.
If you are looking for some dappling movement use a camouflage net, I’m sure you can find one at a Army/Navy surplus store.
Good Luck

May 8, 2009 at 1:34 pm in reply to: What are the best Pro Video Cameras today under 12KYes the Nano Flash is the secret to unleash almost any cameras potential. Mike Schell called me and told me that the Nano Flash prices have finally been set and I believe the MSRP is now $2795 so depending on your supplier you could see it for about $2500.
For me finding the best camera starts at the front end with features like removable lens and the largest image sensors with the highest pixel count. And now you add the recording device yourself that goes way beyond the limits of the camera.
By simply recording @ 50 Mbps you are already at the latest XD Cam HD codec level with 4:2:2 color spacing, this is a major step and you will have 80 minutes of record time using a 32 gig CF card that are below $80 now. If you raise the bit up to 100 Mbps you will reduce the record time in half to 40 minutes per 32 gig CF card. This is still a bargain with recording quality better than HD cam.
I’m receiving box number 00001 very soon and I can’t wait to permanently mount it on my EX3 just like Sony did for their latest high end camera at NAB.

Good Luck

Not sure 300 gigs is the max, can’t wrap my head around it at the moment but it is a solid solution for archiving data. If you are depending on hard drive for your “disaster recovery” system then you should have a second hard drive with the same backup on it in another place as hard drives are cheap.
“I love the idea of recording the Prores 1080i possibly on the new JVC cause its ready to edit in FCP”
The new JVC cameras DO NOT record in the Apple Pro Rez codec. They DO have a Quicktime .MOV wrappers so you don’t need to re-wrap the Native XD Cam files before editing with FCS2. These are nice cameras but they are NOT IMO as good as the Sony XD Cam EX series cameras due to the smaller 1/3 inch sensors. Before you purchase anymore storage drives I would like you to visit https://www.maxupgrades.com and call Syed the owner and consult with him for your next storage solution. Syed has been suppling me and my productions with proven affordable storage systems for the last 4 years and they (knock on wood) haven’t failed to date.
I’m not sure about the Drobo system but any good raid 5 solution will have plenty of redundancy and will rebuild a replacement drive should one fail.
Good Luck

Yep, an archive only tape system, not something you can access to quickly. We are all waiting for SONY to offer up an optical archive solution. Hopefully this summer.
Good Luck

I would forget the SD up conversion and tape storage if you are really going to HD.
Sony XD Cam HD and EX codecs are extremely storage efficient and are both offer full raster 1920×1080 native HD Broadcast resolution sensors. I am a DP for an Animal Planet series and in the first season I choose the DVC Pro HD codec and we had to cross convert up to 1080 and some said the image didn’t look right during the broadcasts. Last season I had the production change over to the Sony XD Cam EX3 cameras and we had no complaints and the image quality was excellent. We did record directly to Mac Pro’s capturing as Pro Rez for 90% of the show, however we did backup with native EX files that looked just as good. I believe you will need to purchase 2-16 drive, raid 5 storage racks and network them to the edit bays over gigabit ethernet and purchase an LTO-4 to archive all the data for a fail safe backup. Welcome to the tapeless HD world. Once you change over I believe you will love it.
Good Luck

Most of the Kino’s I’m use to working with have remote ballast and have a head feeder cable to the head. The Diva light has the ballast on the back of the head and perhaps you are getting sound issues from this unit.
Were you using wireless audio gear?
Good Luck
