Yes – I understand your comments re ‘does it really save that much time’. I guess the fact is that that’s the way our editors are cutting so I’d like to make the process as simple as possible for them.

Re ‘I think the sequence might relink if the files are exact same length, name and timecode’. They aren’t the same length, but they will have the same name and timecode.

I guess ultimately the question is:

Can you make Avid think one particular file is actually another file…?

In other words, I have file A with metadata 1, 2 and 3 (for eaxmple)

I have file B with metadata 1, 2 and 3.

Is there any way to AMA file A in, cut with it and then relink to file B…? I.e. tell Avid to relink file A to file B using some metadata vectors 1, 2 and 3.
