What card options do I have since I don’t have any PCIe slots since I’m running an iMac?

    I’ve noticed two things:

The first is that when you upgrade the processor on the regular 2.5k iMacs, you get not only a faster clock speed, but you are upgrading to the core i7 processor, unlike the 5k iMac which comes standard with an i5 with the same clock speed. So the two computers are no longer as equal as I had assumed and implied in my post.

The second is that someone did a test of exactly what I was asking for, and here are the results:

Granted it doesn’t have a Premiere test in there, just a test for After Effects and DaVinci Resolve, but those are the other two pieces of software I use most. Seems like the 5k iMac is the winner in most categories.

  • UPDATE: At the above settings, the Teranex gives me an identical copy of my original footage. Is there any alternative setting that might give me some kind of advanced motion compensated frame interpolation?

  • I’m working on a tv episode made all from stock footage. Most of it is from films whose editing timebase was 23.976. My timeline is also 23.976. The problem is, the film masters contains shots that I know were either shot at 29.97 and either conformed with cinema tools to 23.976 and then sped back up to 125% to play realtime, or just simply dropped in the timeline and exported. This is causing the episode to fail QC due to dropped frames all over the place. I don’t have access to a media managed version of the film, so if I were to run the film masters–or perhaps my entire episode–through the Teranex 2d with project settings at ProRes 422 1080p 23.976 for both playback and captures, would this fix my problem? What is the suggested workflow here? Are there any alternative software conversion suggestions, will mpeg streamclip, Episode 6, or some sort of Red Giant software be a solution as well? Thanks for your help.
