    Greg,

Please correct me if I’m wrong, but do you want to import 12+ hours of media into your timeline at one time?

[Robert Bracken] “for some reason even thought i create the title to have a storyline the transition still affects the video below it. why is that?”

    “Affects” in what way?

[Nelson Torres] “For instance all of my clips are labeled SC01S01AT01 (scene/shot/take). I don’t want the computer to start collating all my Med Shots or shots with people together and messing up my numbering systems.”

You can turn that option off when you import and keep your numbering system.

Aindreas, the fact that you thought I was Chris tells me all I need to know about the mentality behind your posts.

    No harm. No foul.

    Cheers.

[Chris Jacek] “Sorry if you are offended by our exchange of ideas.”

Except that it’s not an exchange of ideas. It’s venting ad nauseum.

Take forum member Aindreas Gallagher as a perfect example. If I’m not mistaken, he’s never even used FCPX and he is, from what I’ve witnessed, the biggest complainer on this forum. Other than this thread here (https://forums.creativecow.net/thread/335/12021) which seemed like a sincere attempt at having a real talk about editing, the majority – if not all – of his posts are negative or mock everything associated with FCPX and/or Apple. They’re counterproductive to engaging in a serious discussion about the software and its flaws. In just about every other online community, he’d be known as a troll and wouldn’t be taken seriously by either the members or the moderation team, but here on the Cow, he’s become some sort of folk hero. I have nothing personal against Aindreas or anyone else who hates FCPX, and they may each be the brightest editors I ever encounter, but you’d never know it from the way they communicate on here. In fact, this forum has become less about FCPX (or hating it) and is veering strongly into anti-Apple territory.

Personally, I’m glad editors are angry and venting their complaints because it’s the only way FCPX has a chance of improving, but there’s a way of doing so that’s productive and a way that’s not. Instead of fighting one another, wouldn’t we all be better served if the young, old, experienced and novice, worked together to make FCPX the best it can be?

“Film editing is now something almost everyone can do at a simple level and enjoy it, but to take it to a higher level requires the same dedication and persistence that any art form does.”
    ~Walter Murch

  • You need to turn your secondary video clip into a storyline (Command+G or by right-clicking on the clip and selecting ‘create storyline’) and then you’ll be able to add transition effects.

Oh, and for the future, if you run into problems adding effects to titles, read my post here: https://forums.creativecow.net/thread/344/918

  • [Craig Seeman] “After the free beer I assume?”

LOL. No, I didn’t touch the free beer/cookie/pastries they offered. The speaker – Evan – was engaging, but after the “History of FCP”, the rest of the presentation felt like he was attempting to calm down hysterical editors. Since I’m already a fan of FCPX (despite it’s curent shortcomings), I don’t need convincing of it merits. Ironically, he would’ve been more suited to talking to some of the negative members of the Cow, specifically, the ones in this forum.

  • I was also at the Tekserve event, but I left early.

  • [Eben Abbaan] “FCP X haters —-> mad at apple

my psycho ex —> mad at me”

The real question is, was your ex a psychotic before or after she dated you? 😉

I’m a FCPX supporter but a great deal of editors have good reason to be furious with Apple for the way they’ve handled this whole affair. Are there some who are simply resistant to change? Of course, but you’re going to find that in any industry. However, there are others with legitimate gripes.
