Unfortunately, no. Best to submit a feature request. https://www.apple.com/feedback/finalcutpro.html

The workaround I use is to copy the name of the clip in the event and paste it into the Timeline Index. If you used the clip it will be revealed.

[Oliver Peters] “EDIT: Oh, and significant portions of the industry are not allowed to have their machines connected to the internet.”

This will be a major hurdle – can you get a guarantee that your footage is secure when it hits the cloud? Security is easy for onsite storage – unplug your computer from the internet and limit who has access to the machine. But once it hits the cloud?

[Winston A. Cely] “if you have a schedule, do you really need the upgrade on any specific internal components option?”

If you can upgrade individual components your total hardware replacement schedule gets longer, so each machine makes more money over the course of its life.

If you completely max out the Mac Mini (6-core i7, 64GB RAM, 2TB hard drive) you’re at $4,199. Add in the Blackmagic Pro eGPU for $1,199 and you’re at $5,398. And you still need a screen.

I think it would be a better value to get the base level iMacPro (8-core), upgrade the RAM to 64GB, leave the hard drive at 1TB and you’ll have a machine that is likely faster (with much better cooling), comes with an incredible screen, and totals $5,799. By the time you get a decent screen for a maxed out Mac Mini, the iMacPro would be the cheaper option. And the only thing you sacrifice is the internal storage.

I am interested to see how the Mac Mini performs in the real world. The $300 hike in price on the base model is hard to take, and it gets expensive fast when you start upgrading it, but it could make a great little offline machine. Especially with the 10GB ethernet upgrade option for only $100. They should offer that in every computer.

Plus, you can swap out the card in the Sonnet unit. You can’t swap the card in the Blackmagic unit.

  • [David Townsend] “Wow. Apparently I’ve touched a few nerves here. I get it, I’ll update.”

Sorry to take your thread off the rails.

In the future, I do recommend keeping an eye on forums like this one to be more aware of situations like this. That way, if they release another update that requires a huge update to all of your projects you’ll know to either update sooner or at the very least download and archive the version that will bring your projects forward.

Good luck with all the updates!

  • [Robin S. Kurz] “And my point is, that if he had done this even so much as ONE, maybe even two years ago, instead of waiting more than FIVE, we wouldn’t be having this conversation. “

Which doesn’t help the OP at all, so why post it? It’s too late for him to take your advice now, so why not do what others have done and post an actual solution, rather than admonish him for not updating sooner? If you’re wanting to direct blame at someone (which is a weird thing to want to do when you could be helping), why not admonish Apple for making his situation such a nuisance to remedy? Especially when it’s not an issue with any other NLE software?

[Robin S. Kurz] “Never mind that it’s actually a good not bad thing that FCP is constantly updated to take advantage of the most current and powerful frameworks… and others don’t for years to come. “

That’s an interesting way to look at it. I wouldn’t consider Apple to be a gold standard in “constant” updates, but to each his own. I’d prefer they operate more like Blackmagic, personally.

  • I have no idea what you’re trying to say here.

The OP wants to open an old FCPX project in the newest version of FCPX. They can’t. Instead, they have to install an old version of FCPX on an old OS, update the project, then transfer that over to another OS to open and update it in the newest FCPX.

My point is that in any other NLE you would just open the old project in the newest version of the software and start working. I guess I didn’t make that clear?

  • [Robin S. Kurz] “ou expect it work with just a few clicks? “

To be fair – it would just be a few clicks in any other NLE.

  • The post says that the video was released today, not that the software was.

Resolve 15.1 was released Sept 27, and that video was posted Oct 15, outlining new features in the then 18 day old software. It’s like how Apple releases software, then a few days or weeks later there is a review video that goes over the new features. If it’s not ready the day of release, it’s usually shortly thereafter. Like Saccone’s post.

And today they released 15.2**. Blackmagic doesn’t sleep.

EDIT: **15.1.2 was released today, not 15.2
