Hmm. That looks terrific. Have you had good experience with it? No ratings on the App store.

    Thanks!

    Pro Versioner is terrific.

Here’s what I don’t see out there: an easy, automated way to back up my event. I end up duplicating/cloning events on another drive but I wish there was a tool that would then make incremental backups at a regular or user defined basis.

Pro Versioner is great for backing up projects. Wish it handled events/media too.

  • Sorry if you have already tried this but I recommend the pro maintenance suite from Digital Rebellion:

    https://www.digitalrebellion.com/promaintenance/

You can download and try it free so you won’t have red tape issues with payment. Trash preferences for starters. But–there is a crash log analyzer that is very handy.

And a corrupt file finder, too. (Although based on the thread you may have disk/hardware issues).

I always trash prefs and delete project and event render files when I am having issues FWIW. Remember, no still images greater than 4000 pixels or FCPX will throw up,too. Resize them down before importing.

    Good luck!

Aww, jeez. Don’t jinx it. I expect nothing. And hope to be wrong.

Actually, thanks to Ben’s prompt, I learned how simple it is to remove all the trail versions FX Factory loads into your browser. Just open up the FX app, >Actions>Disable Trial Products.

Relaunch X, and you only see those plug ins you’ve purchased in your effects browser (or none if you haven’t purchased any).

That said, I think the FX folks would do themselves a favor by not loading a jillion effects as the default but giving the user the option in the first place.

Well, by gum, thank you sir! I looked and found “Disable Trail Effects” and I am much happier. I now feel that much better about FX Factory.

Now, about the audio export to Logic and Pro Tools….

There are work-arounds to create your own Favorites filter folders within X, but they do add a bit of extra work.

That said, I think it’s a huge plus the way you can preview a filter without have to apply and render. That is a huge time saver.

I just installed FX Factory (after holding for a long time) because I wanted to purchase Ripple Callouts (which is great, BTW). I really don’t like the way FX Factory pre-installs a jillion demo effects, which I never purchase and just clutter my effects browser. I wonder if I can just delete them? Never tried.

What I do like is the third-part plug ins that FX Factory brings into their fold. A lot of good stuff there. And I’ve never had much of an issue with installing plugs (in the past) us FX Factory.

You got it. That’s what gap clips are for. But if the new opening chunk is already edited, simply copy and paste/insert at the beginning of the timeline.

But also: you can just start editing in the new clips into the very beginning of the piece. Select them from the browser, position the playhead at the beginning and then cut them in. The rest of the video will “push” down to the right automatically. That is one benefit of the magnetic timeline.

February 19, 2013 at 3:47 pm in reply to: Good monitoring Solutions for FCPX?

    Thanks for all the input.

It’s a bit if a muddle right now. Our current main system is a 2009 tower, so no thunderbolt. Had been using the Matrox MXO Mini out to an HDMI Samsung for playback/grading.

When we switched over to X, no support for Matrox. So we were going straight to an Apple Cinema Display. Honestly, the results were good for our deliverables, mainly web and projection.

That said, always wanted to get back to a calibrated solution–for the 2009 tower. I guess we could go back to the MXO/Samsung HDMI solution (although I have to say the ACD looks pretty damn fine. And for one potential reason, see this article by Phillip Hodgetts https://www.philiphodgetts.com/2011/09/fcp-x-color-management-secret/ )

Compounding this is that we will be getting another system soon–either 27″ iMac or new tower if they come out in March as some think will happen. Seems like Thunderbolt opens up a new world of options. And new breakout boxes.

For non-broad cast, are folks with new iMacs relying on what they see on the screen or going out through a box to a broadcast monitor? Probably a bit of both.

    So:

    >>Any final recs for breakout box or card from a 2009 tower to an HDMI Samsung?

    >>Recs for a “broadcast” monitor for grading in a Thunderbolt world?

    Thanks!
