Nothing personal Corey. I spend my time constantly talking work flows for picture & sound post with a range of experienced and inexperienced program makers.
So often students get themselves into the biggest messes and then expect people like me to bail them out for no money. My caution is a survival instinct.
However, I salute you for doing the homework and asking. Yes 8 bit uncompressed SD will run off a firewire 800 disk. I run 10 bit SD Uncompressed of various Lacie drives without any bandwidth problems. Chose the correct Easy Setup and way you go.

Yes I got that bit. It comes just after he says he has his film on digi beta.
My understanding of the English language is that he is saying he is taking his digbeta and having it captured to HD at 8 bit uncompressed. Silly idea really but that’s what he said so I questioned if he had typed digibeta instead of HDCam. There is no mention of transferring his 35mm to HD 8 bit uncompressed so I avoided making assumptions.
We should wait until we hear from Corey rather than guessing.

From a digi betacam as he states in his post – “I am a student who shot 35mm and had it transfered to digibeta.”
So my confusion is whether that was a typo or if this is actually HD at all.
If it is HD, I stand by my comment that it needs something other than a firewire 800 drive to be able to play HD 8 bit uncompressed. This was in response to mattdawgpro who said “As long as your computer has firewire 800, just put it on a firewire 800 drive, preferably something with 2 drives in a RAID”.
Have I missed something here?

I’m confused. 35mm to dig beta makes it SD not HD. If that was a typo and it is going to HDCam and then to 8 bit uncompressed HD, you cannot run that off a firewire 800 drive.
Uncompressed HD will need a fast RAID. I use a 4TB sata array with dula channel fibre to run HD uncompressed 10 bit. 8 bit is still a lot of bandwidth.

Reducing a cast shadow on a wall – no. The filter is great at lifting shadow detail but won’t solve your particular lighting problem. Sorry if I misunderstood your issue.

How did you use Media Manager? Did you copy the sequence of use the make offline option? I usually recapture HDV or HDCam that has been edited as DV codec and have not had scaling problems when I use Media Manager to create offline, set the compression to HD uncompressed and then recapture. It seems to scale SD DV codec to HD uncompressed without any issues.

Hear Hear for the Lyric Shadow Highlight FREE plugin. I work on docos so I use this filter a lot to get shadow details back in. Sometimes it seeems like turning on a small fill light on a shot or a reflector. It is a great plugin as it can also bring down blown out highlights as well.

Have a play with the Mixer Tool. You can automate mixing just like a real mixer using the mouse to drag the fader up and down around dialog.
We do all our mixing outside FCP but once I had to do a quick mix for a client within FCP and that is how I did it. Much quicker than playing with individual keyframes. Also I think you will find it is affecting the track level and is in addition to the clip based levels so I think it might be what you are actually after. You will need to enable the mixer to write keyframes. By default it is switched off.
