December 1, 2012 at 6:02 am in reply to: Rendering 1440 x 1080 to blu ray

    Hi John,

The footage i am editing is as follows:

    Type: MPEG-2 Transport Stream
VIdeo Stream: 25.000 fps interlaced, 1440x1080x12, AVC

Based on the above, it would be better to use the Blu-ray 1440×1080-50i, 25 Mbps video stream? I had a play with the Sony AVC templates and couldn’t find much difference between them (other than the output file size). Futhermore, the MainConcept MPEG2 HDV template required recompressing in DVDA.

Where applicable, i made changes to the templates to increase Video Quality and Video Rendering Quality to Max setting.

Is there any benefit in rendering as Progressive (from the Interlaced Footage)?

I am not sure if DVDA questions are to be submitted in another forum, but thought I’d ask here also…

What is the best DVDA Project setting to make a fully compliant Bluray Video Disc? – AVC vs MPEG2? (will obviously relate to the render in Vegas Pro). And what is the best bit rate settings?

Sorry to be a pain John….

    Hi John,
I created the sub clip from the trimmer, then attempted to stabilize the subclip from the project media. However, it didn’t work. I tried using the media Fx, and video fx. No luck. Did i miss anything?

Thanks again for the prompt reply and advice John.

I am using Vegas Pro 11.

Is there any value in modifying any settings (i.e. Changing Video Quality to High, and Video Rendering Quality to High)?

As the files are M2TS, I take it i’d need to use the MainConcept MPEG-2 setting. Will the 25mbps setting give me a better outcome vs. the 8mbps setting?

I can imagine how trivial these questions sound. I really appreciate your advice.

Thankyou John and Steve for this info. You guys are a terrific help (as usual). Sorry for the belated reply. For some silly reason, my email settings moved all my notifications to Junk.

Thanks for the reply and this helpful info. I agree to your recommendation regarding using Blu Ray media. I guess you can say this is just in the interim.

As the DVD buring software use the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS template, how do I go about burning the DVDA-created .iso file, and allowing the Blu Ray player to recognize as a Video Disc?

I noted your point about not installing Nero on your Video-editing pc. Are there any conflicts that Nero causes, or is it just personal preference?

Thanks again for your help John.

    Hi John,

Sorry to jump in on this topic a year down the track. I am using Sony Vegas Pro 11 and DVDA 5.2.

I would like to know if there is a way to author and burn a Hybrid DVD (i.e. 1440 x 1080 footage onto a 4.7GB DVD) using DVDA? Otherwise, can I prepare the project in DVDA, then burn the image file using another application like Nero 12?

It appears that DVDA only has a preset to burn HD using Blu Ray, and SD using DVD.

I have a DVD burner, and a Blu Ray play capable of playing this sort of disc.

If you need any further details, please let me know.

    Thanks in advance.

Mike, just like to thank you for your help. The Sharpen FX at 0 works well, and I was very impressed with the Colour Curves FX to enhance the darker scenes.

    Thanks again.

I really appreciate your help here Mike.

Thanks for the tip Re: Using the FX In the Preview window. Much easier. It’s a shame this cannot also be done with the Stabilizer FX also.

Can I ‘trick’ Vegas and DVDA into using Bluray Render settings and DVDA setting, and burn onto DVD+R DL (with menus etc.), then playing the disc on a Bluray player?

September 20, 2012 at 12:08 pm in reply to: Best settings to render HDV (1440×1080) to mpeg2

Thanks for your reply mike. The settings I have used are as below:

    Project Settings:
    I used the HDV 1080-50i (1440×1080, 25.000 fps) preset.
Adjust source media to better match render settings has been left unchecked.

    Render Settings:
I used the DVDA PAL Widescreen preset, but with VBR as max 9,500,000, ave 8,000,000, min 4,200,000.

By the sound of it, adjusting VBR to CBR 8,000,000 will make a difference to the clarity of the ‘darker’ events?

I could apply the Sharpen FX to each video event, but I am unsure what you mean by Vegas master output. Is this the same?

Prob not a good comparison, but the video quality is nowhere near what I see on 4.7GB DVD movies.

Another avenue would be to create an 8.5BG DVD. Would you also have any pointers on what Project and Render settings to use here?

Thanks again for your help Mike.

  • Hello there,

I am a newbie to DVD editing and authoring. I have Sony Vegas Pro 11 and DVD Architect Pro 5.2.

I have been attempting to create a 1 hour PAL Widescreen DVD.

My source video is HDV 1440×1080. I have used the corresponding project setting in Vegas Pro, and rendered as Main Concept mpeg2 DVD PAL Widescreen. Audio rendered separately as AC3.

I then use DVDA to import the pre-rendered video and AC3 audio to the provided PAL Widescreen DVD 720×576 project template.

Everything fits neatly onto one 4.7GB DVD+R, but the video looks a bit pixelled and grainy. Am I doing anything wrong? What settings in Vegas Pro 11 & DVDA Pro 5.2 should I use to get a nice crisp video? I keep thinking there must be a better way.

If you need any further info, i will provide.

    Thanks in advance!!
