  • Sounds good to me!

Sadly FCPX is not keeping the pre-existing meta data. It’s matching and throwing all the meta data away and revealing the clip devoid of any pre-exisisting metadata. Obviously it’s a bug as it’s new to 10.3 and we’re finding some workflows to get around it.

    Thanks for chiming in

    Cheers

  • Hi Jeremy,

Yes or worse case now with 10.3, there won’t be a clip with metadata next to clip that we match to that has no metadata. It’s very strange.

    Thanks for the reply

So heads up in case this is helpful to anyone. I was a little less aggressive and broke out the timeline in question into it’s own event, then chose “file/delete generated render files” hoping to avoid re-rendering every file for the entire library (which is huge), no change. So I quit and relaunched after doing this, everything was back to normal and it’s re-rendering the files.

    Thanks Jeremy!

We are delivering for SXSW and having the same problem, errant black clips in the timeline. This happened after moving to work on a laptop OS X 10.10.5 from a late 2013 Mac Pro OS X 10.11 (working remotely due to long standing power outage on delivery week, yay). This is with transcoded clips, multi cams and titles generated in FCPX.

In some cases the head of a multicam clip is black in a primary storyline, in other cases the titles and/or clips in secondary story line are playing black when play head goes over them. To add to the secondary storyline weirdness, we have two Video subroles (see attached, problem clips in yellow) “Archival Footage” and “Video Other” and when viewing only one sub role at a time, the clips in secondary storyline or clip under can be seen in timeline when playhead is over them.

What’s also so strange is clips in event viewer are fine and that playing optimized in timeline the black clips and multicams can be seen. Over cutting from the event has help in some cases but not always and it’s a lot of work to redo. We’ve trashed preferences, restarted FCPX, restated the machine, any other ideas?

    Many thanks in advance

  • Watch the first 10 minutes of this video, specific workflow to duplicate multicam and create a transfer event to avoid duplicates created by dragging and dropping projects between libraries:

Hope it helps in some way

October 3, 2016 at 11:18 pm in reply to: Searching for Specific Marker in Event Browser Clips

PS Unlike the event area, the timeline index is FANTASTIC, searchable markers, chapters, todo etc. You can also view JUST keywords or JUST markers etc simplifying complex logging scenarios plus text searches allow you to cue to the marker and clip position, absolutely perfect.

So I mentioned this to one of the higher ups at Apple “why not put this SAME functionality found in the timeline index into the event viewer?” Normally when I mention fixes to the Apple developers the response is always, “we know about that problem, we are working on it along with many other challenges as best we can with regard to priority”. I get it, they are dealing with lots of things. But this time he said “wow, that’s a great idea”.

Praying this get’s implemented, especially for long form projects, as searching in a sea of markers inside long hour plus clips for a word is so painful, usually just edit the clips into a temporary project timeline just so we can use the timeline index, less than ideal.

Meanwhile FCPX is young and awesome, hopefully keeps improving and Apple listens to it’s user base.

It makes so much sense that sym links do not create redundant data but what about proxies? Is there a way to edit between different libraries on the same drive WITHOUT copying the proxies?

    Thanks in advance

  • Hi Jeromy,

We use markers extensively in the timeline index and often find things we would like to fix. We match to the clip in the event, fix it there so the fix propagates through out our pipeline, then need to replace the clip in the timeline with the fixed clip.

Yah it’s a bug and have reported it. Appreciate you taking a peak.

    Hi Elizabeth,

Here’s a FCPX Proxy Only Remote Collaboration UPDATE 2015-0126

A great workaround that allows us to once again share work remotely with only small sized pointer files and work remotely with proxies:
