Maybe check to make sure you have all updates and patches installed.

Well, there is the “golden hour,” the first hour after sunrise or before sunset each day. It certainly gives things a different look… go watch some Terrance Malick films; he’s obsessive about shooting at that time of day only.

The firmware is available at https://magiclantern.wikia.com/wiki/550D.

And in reply to Peter, the firmware does indeed disable the internal mic and playback speaker. However, I have not needed to use either since I installed the hack. The standard internal mics are useless in my opinion so I use lapels or external on-camera mics exclusively. You can also hear audio playback through the headphones, so I don’t use the internal speaker.

    Thanks for the info…

I would like to have an external RAID, but not sure if we can support it cost-wise. If I can, I’ll sneak a CalDigit into the budget. Is there an important reason to go with a RAID 5 rather than a 10, other than tying up less drives for parity? I was under the impression that RAID 10 should have significantly better performance, though I might be wrong.

Didn’t know about the Quadro 4000; I will definitely keep that in mind if it is released soon.

Do you have a budget in mind?

This would be my choice, had I the means and need for one:

You’d be better off starting from scratch and reinstalling apps; at least with FCS anyway. My system had several issues when I tried to upgrade without reinstalling.

Nope, not legal without permission. I wouldn’t do it.

Check out the Magic Lantern firmware hack that lets you turn off the AGC on the T2i. Of course, I’m sure it voids your warranty and it’s not easy to set up, but once I got it working on my camera, it’s worked like a charm. I use a Sennheiser G2 wireless, and it sounds very clear and I can monitor with headphones and onscreen level meters.

With the factory firmware, audio from the camera is completely useless, regardless of the mic. It just sounds terrible. Either do the firmware hack or go dual system with a Zoom recorder or similar. As for mic selection, depends on what you’re micing.

Yeah, charge at least a little more.

Remember, it’s not just your time. You’re using your equipment to shoot and edit. That stuff doesn’t pay for itself.

Keepvid isn’t a utility; it’s a website. Yes, it works on Mac and PC.
