Thanks a lot Floh!
The drive issue has been resolved. It was due to read/write permissions.
Thanks for the link to Tiger 10.4.3 also.
The current QuickTime version is v7.0. In order to update to 7.3 I would need to update Tiger to at least 10.4.9.
Your previous post suggests that you are successfully running 8.2.3 on 10.4.11. If this is the case, perhaps I should load 10.4.11 + QT 7.3?
Thank you for your wise advice.

Thanks. In this case the software key is for v8.2.1.
Media100 launched successfully.
However, there seems to be an issue with drive permissions…
–> In the “Media Destinations” dialog box, all connected drives appear. However, the system will not allow me to select other drives (It is “locked” to the primary boot drive). It allows me to de-select the round buttons in the column for the boot drive, but will not allow me to select the external sSata drives.
I installed Tiger 10.4.0. QuickTime is currently at 7.0. When I tried to upgrade QT to 7.3 I was informed that Tiger would need an update. The default downloadable update from Apple would put me at 10.4.11. Considering all of the above information, I have left things as they currently are. If possible, please advise as to what specific configuration you have found effective.
Thank you for taking the time to consider this problem.

Hello Wick
The 8.2.1 discs arrived and it appears this was an upgrade from v7 because the v7 discs and literature were also included.
Can I install the 8.2.1 directly without having to install v7 first? Dual boot for OS9 would be a pain. All of the serial numbers (install keys) are here. I will ask the seller to formally have the system license signed over if possible.
Also I read in the install guide for the included FEC 4 that an online authorization was required. I assume this link is now dead, please let me know if there is a way around this issue.
Thanks a lot,
Max

September 22, 2008 at 12:41 am in reply to: Premier CS3 with AJA Xena… please help.Just for clarification,
…as you mentioned above, AJA is not an HDV system.
Unlike DV, HDV 720p does not allow for “round-trip” live playback from the NLE back into the HDV device via firewire. You can execute “Export to Tape” commands, but you must first go through a re-coding process before export. This is an HDV-format related flaw, rather than a PPro problem.
However, and please correct me if I’m wrong, the AJA HDV presets are designed to provide live playback (HD-SDI, SDI, Analog) of HDV Programs; but first you must import the HDV files, which are captured using standard PPro HDV capture.(?)
It appears the crashes were likely the product of a Windows OS-related problem. Once the issue is resolved I will be able to configure this system properly.
It would be very helpful to be able to live-output converted HDV 720p to Beta, GrassValley SDI server, hardware-based DVD-R deck, etc…
…in real time.Thank you for your help

Thank you very much for responding.
While I understand that the Xena product (in this case LH) is designed for HD-SDI and component analog capture; the AJA presets includes HDV presets which I assumed (perhaps incorrectly) are designed to facilitate live playback of the Program Timeline from Premier over either HD-SDI, component, live conversion to SD, etc.
As you may know , the above-mentioned competitor you had experience with is now an AJA-based system and allows you to output multiple streams with selectable resolution and aspect ratio. Please let me know if the same arrangement can be set up with Xena and Premier.
Premier worked like a charm before we began shooting HDV 720. As an SD system Premier by itself (without AJA) ran great and provided no cause for complaint.
The issue may be related to the HDV 720 format in general rather than a Premier or Xena problem, but here goes:
I have never been able to capture HDV material over firewire into Premier without the app freezing up at the end of capture. Then I am forced to close Premier with a “Program not Responding” dialog. Then I open the project again, and import the file from the capture bin, hoping that it isn’t a corrupt file. Even succesfully captured files take several minutes to import into the Project bin.
I am using an internally configured RAID in a 4-core Windows XP workstation with 8GB memory and 2TB storage.
CS3, Windows XP, and AJA updates are all current (unless AJA has made an update release in the past two weeks). I have carefully examined my deck settings and firmware updates are current.
Thank you very much for taking the time to read this post.
I really appreciate it.

However, these problems occur on another CS3 system that hads standard internal drives and no Xena card. -
Hello Sir,
Thank you very much for the quick response.
I always consider install keys when purchasing any second-hand system or app. Fortunately most people who are smart enough to choose Media100 typically save the system key. It is important to confirm before purchase.
Please understand that I am not responsible for making large equipment purchases where I work, only recommendations. Things will likely improve next year when our SD-using clients switch. I have been pushing for new MacPro workstations which will be able to support m100HD, but until then I must make the best of what we have.
That said, please understand that I appreciate your help.
The support Media100 has provided me demonstrates excellent customer service, a big edge over Adobe or Apple. I myself replaced some people at my job who had created a bad reputation for poor customer service and I was stuck cleaning up the mess. People like yourself and Melissa the receptionist will give Media100 a great reputation among the new generation of editors such as people like me.
Thanks again, your help will not be overlooked when it’s time to buy a new system.

Hello Again,
My attempts to locate sorely needed Boris Updates led to a conversation with Matt Caravella at M100 who informed me that running m100 v8.1.1 on OSX 10.3 or later will cause apple-related crashes.
I hope this info helps anyone else in the same situation…
I’m still not quite sure on how to track down a copy of OSX 10.2…
Any advice?
Thanks again,

September 2, 2008 at 8:37 pm in reply to: Need missing Graffiti & FX updates… please help! Thanks Peter
I understand that these versions are outdated…
Can I run try-and-buy programs of FX & Graffiti with m100i v8.1.1??
If we purchase the software, does it support multiple hosts? (FCP plus M100??)
Thanks in advance for your help!

Hello Floh
Thanks once again,
I will contact Boris about that upgrade for Graffiti and let you know know the result in case this issue comes up again.
I do not own any version of Boris FX. But I am not opposed to buying it especially if I can find a compatible older version at a discount.
The problem is motion effects. Rendering Motion Path compositions within the m100 Program timeline is causing the app to crash. I hadn’t used the motion path editor prior to the upgrade, so I cannot be certain that the upgrade caused the problem. Attempting to render programs with media in the graphics track also causes the system to crash (I attribute this to the lack of Graffiti update). I am trying to help an NLE-inexperienced colleague (my boss) through the tutorial, which; as you may know, contains a motion path effect and Graffiti titles.
Now that I have the slot order info I will have the technician check it out tommorrow. (I don’t work on computer hardware since the night I accidentally fried a Quantel board years ago).
As always, I appreciate your help. I had a question in the Encore forum and had to post it 3 times to get one answer!
Thanks again,

Thank you very much for the info…
I appreciate your assistance, I had asked about this issue twice earlier and got no action. I guess I’m used to the fast responses I get in the Media100HD forum.
Thanks again,
