Exactly. But you are crazy for using FCP 🙂

You don’t need any edls. This is how he should do it:

    1. Consolidate the sequence to FW and relink it to new files
    2. Export a QT-ref that references the consolidated media.

Then the way to do it is to consolidate the media to your FW drive from within MC and THEN export the QT ref. I’ve had bad luck with DNxHD on the Mac though. Has Avid released a stable version of the codec for Mac?

MC plays a big part in our DVD production process as well. We do the compression on the MC workstation by feeding the QT reference. Most often the source media in DNxHD. All major encoders don’t have an issue with this. If you’re on a Mac and have the proper codec, if you share the drive that has the media and the QT reference, you should be able to play and compress the file over the network, although I’d recommend doing the encoding on the MC machine.

    This may be your answer:

But there are also external BD drives with a FW connection.

And you can use Toast to actually burn the stuff.

In your button commands do this:
    1. Mov GPRM 1, 0, link indirect, post-command of this PGC
    2. Mov GPRM 1, 1, link indirect, post-command of this PGC

GPRM 1 not effectively carries your setting.

In the post-command of that PGC (your menu), do this:
    1. Set audio stream to GPRM 1, link to title

In the pre-command of your title PGC, do this:

    1. Set audio stream to GPRM 1

That’s what I’d recommend as well. Except if you want to track your setting when jumping back and forth within VMG, I’d write variable, set stream in the post-command of your menu, and enforce the setting again in the pre-command of your title PGC.

  • Google “cd autorun”. Will work, but only on Windows machines.

Sorry for my ignorance Michael, but what else is there besides frame-size and frame-rate that’s different (audio issue aside)?

I’ve had many clients who have supplied 29.97 NTSC converted right in FCP from 25, and besides a few audiophiles who complain about the slight alteration of audio this causes, I haven’t had any issues. Your problem is that you’re converting to 24 fps, when NTSC rate is 29.97.

There is however Qflix – a system developed by Pioneer and Sonic that allows to burn CSS-protected discs.

It’s not yet mass-market and may never become, but it is possible.
