Surprised that Trai hasn’t chimed in on this. You should never use transitions in DVDSP – I’ve seen them throw a disc completely off kilter. Instead, do all your editing in FCP (or whatever you’re using), and encode/import the transitions as separate clips.

You should bypass FCP altogether – AE and PS should be enough, unless you do something else in FCP other than render.

First, set your AE sequence to 720×480, not 486. Export still from AE, open in PS, and make your overlays. Keep everything at 720×480 and you’ll be good. I’m assuming you’re working in 4×3 – so double check that your Compressor doesn’t flag the stream as 16×9.

    Lucas,

I would more likely be wary of a replicator who DOES accept DDP any way other than DLT and Wamnet. DLT uses by far the most extensive error detection and correction schemes, and is the most secure way of delivering your bits.

Does it happen in hardware or software simulation? One other thing I’d try is downgrade to 3.1 and see if you’re still getting it.

Most discs sold in stores are authored in Scenarist. The master is submitted to replication plant on DLT tape, where they make a glass master from it. If you want to have CSS copy protection on your final discs, the project MUST be submitted on DLT. The glass master is then used to mold the discs. I can give your client a quote for the project if they’re interested.

Unless the encoder is told to look for cadence it will make a straight 29.97 stream. Who’s gonna carry your film, btw?

24p is not supported by DVD and is not really used in Blu-ray either. Instead it’s 23.976p. NTSC (DVD or digibeta) runs at 29.97, and encoding from digibeta is standard practice. They can likely remove the pull-down from the dbc (e.i. set the 23.976 flags), but they will need to set-up the encoder to do it, and make sure the pull-down settings are correct.

I’m sure you’ve heard about Blu-ray, and maybe even seen it. That’s your answer. Anamorphic SD is next best thing, especially if watched on an up-converting player.

Sure, just click on “link” under “assign GPRM” line. We usually set these links to dummy PGCs as the menu-post commands usually have looping instructions.

Eric’s code will definitely work. You can also set that GPRM 0 in your buttons. So your button commands can look like this…

button 1: set GPRM 0=1, link by sub-instruction, post-command of current PGC
button 2: set GPRM 0=2, link by sub-instruction, post-command of current PGC

In the post command of your menu, add a jump to title line.

Then you can use Eric’s commands in your title.
