Most players sore disc ID and resume info, some for up to 30 discs. So there MAY be a way to access that info. Take a look at the VM code and please post your findings!

There’s DVD Reauthor for PC from DVD Logic. It has a functional free trial, but it creates a Scenarist project from all the assets, and it’s a tricky application to learn (even if you can get you hands on it). You may be able to use the menus and highlights that it will demux for you though. In short there ARE reauthoring tools out there, but not for the prosumer level of authoring

    Eric,
Some DVI connections are compatible with HDCP, but I wouldn’t be surpirsed if your 5 y/o projector isn’t. If it’s not, you will not be able to get a video signal to it other than via RGB, which you already know. Also, component only supports 29.97i so your progressive discs will get converted on the way out.

I don’t have experience with DVDit, but I do know that it will accept elementary streams. You can buy an affordable app like MainConcept or ProCoder, make your HD mpeg2, and just bring it into DVDit after it’s been encoded.

Blu-ray is your best bet. Many festivals are already accepting submissions on the format and “On Location Memphis” will be actually screening on Blu-ray and 35mm exclusively during the fest.

SD card will probably do fine.

BTW.. Blu-code does SD DVD also, not only Blu-ray.

Eric, you beat me to it 🙂 but we have an even newer implementation of mpeg2 in Sony’s Blu-code, which can encode from file or tape.

SD-2000 is a decent encoder, but it’s an old technology. There have been a lot of improvements to mpeg2 since the SD series was developed. Cinemacraft is just one of the examples.

Try extracting assets with DVD reauthor from DVDlogic. You can get a free trial from their site.
