The purpose of the rendering is for playback on mac and pc. The video is supposed to be played on a wide screen in a classroom.

It looks like I don’t have the render template you’re describing in my version of vegas (9). The only mainconcept AVC ones I can choose from are ipod 320 x 240 and 640 x 480.

Basically, I want to convert to a less heavy format without changing any proportions from the original file and not lose too much quality.

That source file is a 2.68 GB .mov and I’d like to reduce it to something like 500 mb.

Should I be able to do that in Vegas 9? Maybe I should switch to some other software? I’d need to be able to do some edits too.

    Hey John

    I have an other film at 720 x 486.

I’m using a 720 x 480 projet template (that seems to be the closest I can choose). I’m not sure what render template I should use. I’m not seeing anything close to those numbers and trying the “default” one seems to mess up my proportions. I tried a bunch of other ones with similar results. Maybe it’s some other setting I have to change?

I’m pretty new at this and I have yet to fully understand some concepts. Please bear with me for asking things that are a bit too basic ;P

    Thanks,

Ahhh.. got it! I thought you meant to use 1080 project template then render. I wasn’t realising that there were rendering templates too. Anyways, I just set everything to 1080 and it did the trick.

    Rendered video looks fine now.

    Thanks for your help John.

Hmmm… I just tried the HD 1080-60i template. Same thing happens

Turns out the project settings were set to default at 720×480. I changed them to 1920 x 1080, that’s the resolution of the main video that I imported in Vegas. I changed pixel resolution to match that too.

I also changed the render settings to my video’s resolution and I put 16-9 as aspect ratio.

Now I’m unable to render anything at all and I get “an error occured while creating the media file X, the reason for the error could not be determined”

Did I forget something or I’m just totally off the track?
