  • It actually doesn’t matter if you are using Thunderbolt or 10GG Ethernet, The latest firmware causes us issues using either type of connection in FCPX.

Glad it’s working for you now though.

  • Hi There. We still have this problem with Firmware Version 4.3.4.0597, we haven’t tested 4.3.4.0644 yet. We just rolled our system back to 4.3.4.0569 and this resolved our FCPX issues.

    Hope this helps you.

  • Thanks Bob, Let me order up that 10GB Switch. Would you then set the QNAP as DHCP Server?

Once it’s arrived I’ll give you a shout privately, and hopefully, you can help me get it set up the best way.

    I appreciate your help.

  • I was hoping you would reply Bob, It’s good that you haven’t seen issues with the latest firmware, at least I know it’s something I need to fix rather than a bug.

    2 Very good questions though.

    Question 1: Connections

We have 2 systems connected by 10GB ethernet directly to the 2 ports on the QNAP
System 1: IP: 10.20.10.112 connecting to Eth5 on NAS Port IP: 10.20.10.100
System 2: IP: 10.20.10.111 connecting to Eth6 on NAS Port IP: 10.20.10.101

Do you think I should separate out the subnets of these 2 10GB Ethernet channels?

and another system connected by Thunderbolt 3
TB3 System: connected to NAS at IP: 10.20.20.1

The Qnap NAS is attached to our local network on Eth1 on NAS Port IP: 10.20.5.205

    Re Question 2:
Interesting you should ask this, So a month or so back, our System 2 user (Who users Prem Pro on his Mac), was having issues with crashing and losing data. We were all connected by SMB3. We didn’t know what to suspect, so added AFP option and connected him that way, with the other 2 systems still connected by SMB3. We have always had NFS turned off.

I know mixing NFS and other protocols was a big no, no, but wasn’t sure about SMB and AFP. Do you think this will have caused us issues?.

Thanks so much for taking the time.

    Hi

Yes, I’m in communication with Tiger support, they haven’t been able to help so far, and its been 3 days now, of trying different things. I thought I would try some forums, just in case anyone has come across similar problems, or any hints that I can follow up on.

    Thanks anyway Bob

    Thanks Bob

Can I check a couple more things with you, you seem to be the man with the knowledge.

Originally we set the raid up as 2 Raid’s and we had a 32bit system accessing the drive, which wouldn’t access the logical drives over 2TB, I think we can get around that now, as most of the systems are 64bit, so would I could set one large drive. WOuld I need to format this as GPT or could I still format a drive of around 5TB as NTFS. WHich wuld you recommend ?

If I did this, would I be able to share this volume over to a 32bit system, or would it only be 64 systems which could even see it, and is there any software to get over this issue.

So if I rebuilt this as a single raid, I would share the raid over both controllers, is there any standard Cache, block setting that I should aim for in building the raid suitable for editing purposes. Unfortunatle I have a little knowledge and this is perhaps my downfall, a little knowledge is a scary thing.

    Many Many Thanks

It would be great to get all this hardware working a little better

  • And What a good job you have done, I have been in despair of 64 bit drivers for Sony Vegas for absolutley ages, and these drivers, work a treat, A MASSIVE thank you from a desperate user.

    Capturing, laying off, and previewing.

May 1, 2008 at 7:06 pm in reply to: Version 6.6.5 for 64 bit

I know, me two, I asked technical support and they answered ¨Your guess is as good as mine¨, which I thought was really helpful from the BlackMagic Technical Support team, they also added that the drivers are usually released about 2 weeks after the 32 bit variants, but if that is the case why have we been waiting since November 2007. Come on Black Magic. Get on the ball, we need Decklink Extreme 64 bit drivers, and stable Multibridge and Intensity 64 bit drivers which work with Sony Vegas. I personally told BlackMagic about an installation bug with Sony Vegas and all the 64 bit drivers back in September and am still waiting for the fix.

IMHO Their driver team leaves a lot to be desired.

Even a beta driver would help.

PLLLLLEEEEEAAASSSEEEEE, how long do we need to wait.

April 2, 2008 at 4:02 pm in reply to: *NEW XENA 3.1.1 SOFTWARE AVAILABLE NOW*

    Hi There

Can you test the 3.1.1 XP64 version of the install, as I get an error when installing this, and the install fails, say “Network Error 1603, reading drive C:\Windows\etc…”

Also, I am having issues with Sony Vegas running the Xena Card on XP64, basically the video preview output seems to work beautifully, but the audio output from the Xena card seems to be around 50 frames or 2 seconds out of sync with vision, Is this a bug, or is this just my system having a wobbley ??

    Many Thanks
