The source varies, but I generally keep everything at 48k/16b.

July 25, 2009 at 8:33 pm in reply to: Importing HVX200/P2 footage shot at 1080i60

I know it’s been awhile since this thread was active, but thought I would post here to make it a little more clear to anyone looking for an answer on this.

I’ve found the simplest thing to do is what Damon suggested, and I’ll elaborate on it. Here are the steps:

    1. Select your 30p footage in the FCP browser.
    2. right-click and batch export it.
    3. In the batch export window click the settings button at the bottom, set a destination and then under settings, set the export for DVCPRO HD 1080i60 and make self contained (at least I assume self-contained would be a good idea). Then close the settings window and click export.
    4. After the batch is complete, re-import into FCP, select the new clips in the browser, and under tools, select cinema tools reverse telecine. Once that’s complete, you should have 24p footage.

    Hope that helps.

January 8, 2009 at 7:31 pm in reply to: Compressor & Quicktime Error-50

    Hi,
Any ideas about why compressor would give a quicktime error 50 on an already exported QT (I don’t even have the project file for this anymore). I’m attempting to encode it for the web as QT h.264. It is a 3 minute piece. Codec is DV/DVCPRO-NTSC 720×480, Integer (Big Endian). I’m on a G5 Power PC dual 2.7 w/ 5g of ram.
    Thanks.

    Thanks Dylan,
Followed your suggestion and the problem is basically solved, but it is still just slightly off (on the RGB Parade, it looks like blues are slightly squashed and reds and greens are bumped up a notch or so.) It’s not really enough to be noticeable though unless you’re scrutinizing. This stuff is so strange. I don’t get whether something has actually been changed with the new footage, or just how it’s being displayed, and I don’t know what to attribute it to.

I haven’t tested it yet, but I’m assuming any differences that appear in round-tripped footage (including stuff brought in at 601/709 vs. RGB), shouldn’t be noticeably different from non-round-tripped footage once I go to DVD. Does that sound right?

Just trying to figure out what I do and don’t need to worry about.

    Thanks,
    Matt
