Encore has something like this, but I’ve not used it, so I can’t speak to if the output is actually functional or worthwhile. Anytime I have a client with a request like this, I push them in the direction of creating a dedicated and intentionally built website with this functionality. DVDs and web sites have different features and capabilities, so it’s really best to design for one of the other and not try to make something fit for both.

Yes, the master is what will define the book type, layer breaks, etc. Most default copy modes on duplicators simply copy the data exactly as is. There are some exceptions to this, but it typically holds true. Before you make a large number, you may want to make one and then test it to be sure it is an identical match to your original. We duplicate a lot of +R DL content and have never had any problems so long as the master is good.
Make sure you use +R DL and not -R DL. There is a big difference.
It sounds like your drives should be fine, but double check the model number online with the specs just to be sure if you are worried.

We charge our hourly rate for the authoring, including all the Photoshop work, pre-planning, testing, etc., and a separate rate for the encoding/compression if we handle that too. We have tiered rates for encoding/compression based on TRT.
If you don’t know how to calculate your hourly rate, do a quick search on the COW and you will find some great threads discussing that at length.

Do you just need a simple auto-play DVD or do you need to author something with menus/chapters, etc? Are you looking for the “best” option to just get it done or to solve your problem moving forward?

It could be a product called Rimage Video Protect, which is a form of content alteration that acts as a sort of copy protection. I think Rimage licenses it from someone else, but they brand it as Rimage Video Protect when they sell it. You have to have one of their Producer series duplication systems to use it, but it works quite well. Just like any form of copy protection, it has it’s it shortcomings and limitations, but it does offer a good layer of security for people that want it. They just dropped the price of it last month, but prior to that it has always been fairly expensive.

Ask your replicator how they handle it. Flagging your master for CSS when you author it prepares it for CSS. Step two of the process “activates” the CSS, which is done when they are replicated. The CSS cannot be added at replication if the master has not been flagged for CSS when it was authored.
The exception is that I have seen some replicators and other companies that re-author a DVD after the fact to add the CSS flag. This is more complicated than just doing it from the start when you author the master.

Not sure that I agree with this. CSS is something that replicators have to pay a royalty on, so yes, they normally charge a fee for it. In addition to the per-disc fee, there is also the additional step to prepare the flagged master for CSS, which many replicators charge a small flat fee for.
I have seen some replicators that offer it free on orders over 10,000 units or so because it is so nominal at that point, but I would question a company if they were giving it away for feee because that would make me question if they are paying the proper loyalties and fees (on this and on the discs themselves).
Of course, just flagging your master for CSS when you author it costs nothing because it isn’t actually adding the CSS. As others have already said, that is only activated when the disc is replicated.

Pioneer PRV-9000. I don’t think they make them anymore, but it’s a great unit if you can find one used in decent condition.

Make a menu with on-screen directions telling the viewer how to get to the website. Like Michael and Eric have both said, don’t try to do it any other way. It simply won’t work and you will drive yourself batty trying.
