Sorry-
Sometimes one is unintelligible when disaster approaches. I have settled a couple of these issues (I think…) but here’s a less convoluted description of a deeply convoluted situation: In essence, I have two related problems A & B, below. Feel free to comment on either.
A. I shot 24p Advanced, but captured in FCP without pulldown, so these clips (about 70 hours worth) are 29.97fps. I have been editing them in a 29.97 timeline. I have 2 main questions: Whether to remove pulldown and switch over to a new 23.98 sequence, and if so, how? And, if so, are there dangers (see “B”)
I do not know whether the project will be transferred to film but it’s possible (not necessarily likely, but possible).
B. The factor that introduces confusion is that my main sequence (due to some kind of corruption) got lost this past week. In the meantime(while the sequence was lost), I experimented with pulldown removal with several clips in the project. Now, I found the lost sequence last night, which is good, but these few clips that I made 23.98 were reading as “offline” in the sequence (which, again, is a 29.97 timebase) . Also, the audio was out of sync (in the entire sequence). So I recaptured these clips (without advanced pulldown removal) and edited them back into the sequence. So it all looks fine, but the audio is still out of sync- by 5 frames consistently through the whole 58 minute sequence .
So, I don’t know if the sync issue is truly related to the pulldown removal (although I remember seeing a guy on some board with a similar problem and he had the same sync issues). But it is certainly a problem.
Sorry for a lengthy and confusing post but I want to disclose as much info as possible so that as people are responding I don’t find myself introducing “new” symptoms/ factors.
Forgive me for muddying the waters…
