I know this was forever ago, but in order to help those that have stumbled upon this thread looking for the same answer:

My workflow (and I can’t remember if I changed the default shortcut keys or not but you can find them in the settings on your own) is to”

    1. Activate the track that the required clip is on for the cut (Toggle target video/audio tracks).
    2. Use Cmd-K to place an edit point on that clip.
    3. Then hit D to select the clip directly in front of the playhead.
    4. Then lift or extract as you see fit (Delete or Forward Delete).
5 If you need to select the clip behind the playhead, hit Cmd-Up (or whatever you chose as your shortcut for the Select Previous Clip shortcut). Then Lift or Extract as needed.

Keyboard shortcuts needed. (These may need to be mapped by the user).
    Toggle target Video 1 (2,3, etc.): 1 (2,3, etc.)
    Toggle target Audio track 1 (2,3, etc.): Ctrl-1 (2,3,etc.)
    Select Clip (at playhead): D
    Select Next Clip: Cmd-Down
    Select Previous Clip: Cmd-Up

    Deselect All Clips: Cmd-D
