  • There’s a new work flow management product coming out called Flow that looks pretty promising:

I was in both the north and south of India last year and English was fine. Most people we met were fluent, and if they weren’t we could still get by. I was in relatively urban areas though, it may be a different case in the sticks.

That said, it probably would bring a smile to people’s face if you could say thanks in their language (knowing which language they speak would be the trick).

Another two cents about the site. How about instead of a category that says “Video Problems” (which implies that the videos you make have problems)- you instead say “Video Support” or similar.

I also second separating the wedding and corporate/web video into two sites. People getting married don’t care about the corporate work and vice versa.

  • If you’re going to tackle design your site yourself, I recommend the book “Don’t Make Me Think”. It focuses on improving the usability of your site for the visitor, rather than graphic design. Extremely helpful.

    Here’s a synopsis from Amazon:

“Usability design is one of the most important–yet often least attractive–tasks for a Web developer. In Don’t Make Me Think, author Steve Krug lightens up the subject with good humor and excellent, to-the-point examples.

The title of the book is its chief personal design premise. All of the tips, techniques, and examples presented revolve around users being able to surf merrily through a well-designed site with minimal cognitive strain. Readers will quickly come to agree with many of the book’s assumptions, such as “We don’t read pages–we scan them” and “We don’t figure out how things work–we muddle through.” Coming to grips with such hard facts sets the stage for Web design that then produces topnotch sites.

Using an attractive mix of full-color screen shots, cute cartoons and diagrams, and informative sidebars, the book keeps your attention and drives home some crucial points. Much of the content is devoted to proper use of conventions and content layout, and the “before and after” examples are superb. Topics such as the wise use of rollovers and usability testing are covered using a consistently practical approach.

This is the type of book you can blow through in a couple of evenings. But despite its conciseness, it will give you an expert’s ability to judge Web design. You’ll never form a first impression of a site in the same way again.”

Sound like maybe you should play with the “render and replace” option in the render settings. I don’t use it much – but i believe it does just what you are looking for.

You can use card dance to displace an image in z space using a gradient map. it would be a different look, but might be interesting.

Typical way to do a loop is to place your comp in another comp and split it somewhere in the middle. Then take the second half and place it at the start, and cross fade into the first half. Then make it end on the last frame of the first half.

Great. Sound like a terrific solution. This is going to be installed in museums for a few months at a time, so ease of use and reliability is critical. I’ve used Watchout quite a bit, and I love it, but it’s just too expensive for this project. I wrote to the Wings dealer here in the US and hopefully they’ll get back to me soon. Thanks again for all your help.

    Hi Thomas-

Thanks for the great information. Sounds like I could do the programming of the show on my pc at home, then off load to it the SC master which controls 5 dual flashcard players. Do you know if you can set up an automatic start-up, i.e just power it on and the whole show starts its loop?

Also. do you have any idea what the SC master and flashcard players cost? I’m wondering if they are cheaper than getting pcs.
