Dude. Thanks a million. I’ll see what I can do. I really like the continuous bleed of the burn. Really making it feel like a brand. appreciate it.

Thanks Simon. I think I’m following you. I’m using your first response as a guideline and the Matte Magic is working nicely. But now that I see your test, I think I like that even better. Only I confused and can’t replicate this. Using the crystalize filter, blur and levels on what? I can’t get the matte or alpha right. What alpha? You say use crystalize on a copy of the logo. Then do what with that? Is there a blend mode I’m missing.
In using Matte Magic, I think the erode function works. I have it coming in from nothing. Which in reality seems weird. I like your effect with the sudden appearance and continuous burn with outlines growing. This reflects an actual brand, where mine with matte magic erodes in, like ink splotches on paper. Plus on mine, the smoke matted to the logo works, but is too large and spills over to areas where the logo isn’t. Having trouble keeping that just to the size of the logo.
Any chance you could let me look at your project file? I’d show you where I am, but need to protect my clients identity.

Thanks for your input gentlemen. I think with what we do here, the iMac’s should serve us well based on your responses and everything else I’ve read. Not too sure about those mini and trying to nip that idea in the bud. And since we’re going to move to 2 TB storage RAIDs, 1 for each since shared storage is expensive, those speeds will benefit greatly too. Not to mention TB I/O for one of us and a PCIe expansion chasis for the other since we have a Declink Studio 2 card. And we’ll spring for the i7 chips and cram as much RAM in as we can.
I’m hoping to get the Cuda working with AE CS6 as well. My current hack only gets me Premiere acceleration and not AE for some reason. I want to pay with ray tracing!
thanks again.

Interesting. That surprises me because I thought with the 780m GFX card the iMac would perform well. Now I would have to hack the text file and add that card to the list for Mercury Playback as we’re still on CS6. I understand CC you can simply check the box for Cuda acceleration, even if not on supported list form Adobe. I currently use the text file hack on my current Hackintock, haha, and I get Mercury in Premiere but not AE. So I’m curious if the iMacs would do ok. Just for simple animations and the occasional matte track & corner pin. Mostly use Motion 5, just because its quick and Premiere. AE for the heavier compositing jobs.
How would the iMac’s perform compared to the specs on my Hackintosh (in my signature & screen shot below)?

Walter/Ridley, I realize this is an older post, but what about the new iMacs. I understand the GeForce 780m isn’t supported either and CC now has an option to use anyway, but with CS6 and the GFX card text file hack, does this card work?
We’re looking to purchase 2 new workstations and am pushing hard for 2 new iMacs, but being asked to look into the Mac Mini’s. Which everything I’ve read, seems like its not a good option for a post production environment. However, I’ve visited a post facility recently and they’re using new iMacs as their work horses. They seem really pleased. Thoughts on both the GFX card thing and iMac vs Mini’s for post production?

Peter, as with many others, we’re looking to upgrade to 2 new iMacs to serve as editing & AE workstations. I’m currently on a hackintosh and the GFX card work in Premiere but not in AE. Question, will the GeForce 780 in the new iMacs work with CS6? Even if we have to hack the text file, that’s fine, but everything I’ve seen says CC, what about CS6? If it does work in Premiere for GPU acceleration, will it work in AE with 3D ray trace?
With our current hackintosh, the text file hack only works in Premiere and not AE. Since the new machine pros are pricey, and many post facilities using new iMacs, I’d like to move over to them, but also wants gnu acceleration to work with the 780 cards. What are my options?
Apprecitate any thoughts?

Thx Angelo. Two things, I should have stated I normally would edit DSLR footage native as export ProRes Master but this being for broadcast I just wasn’t sure if I should transcode to ProRes before edit, a la the old FCP days to give me the 422 color space vs the 420 of H.264. I know the footage won’t any better hut won’t 422 give me the better color space and more head room for color correction? That being said I don’t plan plan on any heavy grading, probably some basic corrections and bring it all into broadcast safe.
And 2, we have Sorenson Squeeze as we’ll, which I don’t like all that much, and prefer Episode, which we don’t have, but do you know if Squeeze uses FFMPEG? Or at least the option to choose that. Because yes I believe AME and Compressor are both Quicktime based.

March 14, 2014 at 2:03 am in reply to: 2 person shared storage? Products? Systems? Edit Share? Thanks Bob. No worries. I’ve read many of your posts and rather enjoy the rants. I’m value your insight and trust you expertise. I couple things need to happen first. One, you mentioned we’ll need a 2nd machine to act as the server, I’m looking into that and should know soon. Two, again, not 100% sure we’re going to need this as I don’t know if we’re hiring this guy or not. If we do, believe me, you’ll be the first to notify as we’re getting busy and we need to keep working. Right now, as a one man band, working local is just fine.
I’m trying to be as proactive as I can with all this, so that if we do hire, we can get things set up before hand and keep them moving without a hitch.
I will be in touch via email. Thanks a ton for your time and knowledge. Please rant on!

March 13, 2014 at 9:31 pm in reply to: 2 person shared storage? Products? Systems? Edit Share?Bob, your offer is perfect. I just need to wait until we’re ready. I don’t have anything set in stone yet. When the time comes, I can absolutely reach out to you for this. I’m simply in the info gathering stage. If we hire this guy, which it looks like we will, I’ll reach back out.
Would you prefer an email?

March 12, 2014 at 1:10 pm in reply to: 2 person shared storage? Products? Systems? Edit Share?sorry bob, I misunderstood your first response. So you’re referring to making my current set up work using the Mercury RAID 5, right? We actually have a few older machines lying around, I believe some 2010 MBPs that could work.
Will that one Mercury RAID have enough throughput for 2 workstations accessing it? Will it handle multiple streams of 1080 ProRes? Along with simultaneous renders and encoding? I know this isn’t screaming fast, but it works for me, I’m just concerned about 2 workstations and throughput.
But I trust your expertise and will definitely get back to you if we can find a machine.
This is our RAID. But an slightly older model that does not have USB 3. eSata, (2) FW 800, (1) FW 400 & (1) USB 2. And i think its only 6 TBs.
