hello,
i prepared all the footage with illustrator and photoshop.
To integrated them in after-effects i used two method.
For all bitmap footage, i simply import the psd in A-E.
For vector work, i also use another method.
When i finish a footage i copy all points ( command + A, command+C) in illustrator.
in after effects, i create a new shape layer (or a solid, but shape layer have more control), and i paste my point from illustrator.
with this method i could edit my points with after-effects, and also create some cool effects with the “stroke” effect for example.
My illustrator work become a mask in after-effects.
For the pop up effect, it’s quite simple, i just play with the rotate settings.
At the end with the path with all the numbers i used some expressions for changing the numbers randomly.
For the fog i used a “fog factory” plug-in form digidesign, but it’s only a 2d fog. So i needed to create more than 40 layers of fog with animated opacity.
i also used particules from trapcode for the fireworks with numbers.
for the old movie style, i use a real white screen 8mm footage, and i compose it on top of my comp in multiply mode, and i also blur edges of my outpout pass.
Another secret of this project, i didn’t worked in HD, but i used “intant HD” from red giant for upscalling.
At the end i had more than 5000 layers, with comp and pre-comp. The most important is to keep your projects organize.
The rendering process with not so long, i only used my macbook pro dual core 2.4ghz with 4gig of ram for this clip and the rendering.
i hope that i answer correctly, if you have another questions don’t hesitate.
