If someone was telling you that about the 27″ iMac, you have been misled.
Apple even tells you how to do it.Just buy the right RAM, and make sure it’s quality RAM.

Looks like the NX3 – it has the two rows of LED lights above the built-in mic. If so, I can vouch for the NX3’s quality, and I bought it on the basis that it was similar to the rock-solid NX5.

Just buying some gear now. Two cameras with basic accessories (batteries and cards) with Manfrotto tripods = A$15000. The Sony NX3 costs $4000.
If I had a budget of $5000 I’d buy a Canon XA20, extra batteries, Rode NT-G1, a lavalier mic (wireless would be excellent – Rode make one of them too), a Manfrotto tripod and head (e.g. MVH500AH Fluid Head & 755XB Tripod with Carrying Bag). I’d skip the DSLR for exactly the same reasons Mark gives.
An iPad teleprompter will be handy. No-one can ad-lib worth a damn. No-one.

Just had someone record a Camtasia video exhorting staff to complete a survey. It goes for nearly 5 minutes. It’s written like a research project, which it is, but people don’t want to hear all the stuff in the background. It’s painful. And now she’s emailed me to tell me she wants it re-recorded. With me doing the VO. I think we’ll have the talk about whether or not a 5 minute video is the right approach for her campaign.
For some of the “inspirational” videos I shoot for internal viewing, I always tell people “Talk to my boss, see if you can get her to sit in on this” because she is just brilliant at getting the right sound bites out of people, just brilliant. Great interviewer.

Hopefully it will fix my particular “crashes on startup” issue that was affecting both FCP and Motion. 2 hours on the phone with Apple support got FCP working, but Motion was resistant to all attempts to fix it.

Everything Mark said. If someone filled out a form, you’d still have to phone them to get all the details, and then meet them to point at things and talk about scripts and locations. If you make the form simple enough that it just contains a few basic bits of information, why get them to fill out a form at all?
Be approachable – let people think they can drop in for a quick chat, to make an appointment for later.
I’m moving off-site soon having been in this position for about 7 years (a move to a more centralised office) and to see the expressions on people’s faces when they realise there’ll be no more drop-ins for quick chats about video projects is really quite touching and humbling. And may form the basis of my next pay rise discussion.

I notice that MotionVFX use the word “extrude” twice on that page. Perhaps they are trying to differentiate between what Apple does (extrusion) and what they do (true 3D).

I remember Live Type before Apple bought it when it was India Titler Pro and cost $800 or something crazy like that.
