I just need to know how you call the illustration technique of combining an image with lots and lots of highlights and shadows in an image with sort of two tone stuf.

February 2, 2010 at 9:43 am in reply to: dont where else to ask. Its about an drawing techniqueI already thought it should be made in Illustrator. But actually I am trying to find out what its called. My first thought was that it is Two Tone art. But that isn’t true since two tone also consist out of other colors than only black and white.
I am specificly searching for the name of the technique actually.
PS. That Youtube video was pretty handy. I didn’t used Illustrator very often in the past. But since a couple of months I am working more and more with it and this one teached me yet another useful feature. Thanks

You think so? Well, thanks. It was actually 2 day shooting (35mm so takes a while) and 2 day editting (in a different country, different people) but actually it was quite fun. It was the first time I touched a oldschool camera and I have to say, the image it creates is really cool.
But to awnser your question, no, I dont. Thats why I am looking for little projects that pass by. Its good to try and find a goal where you help out other people and end up with some nice showreel material. Aint there any artschool in your area? Or schools that provide cinama educations? They often need people with skills and experience to help them out with projects. Ofcourse, you wont get payed but you got something..

I am having somewhat the same problem. I tried looking for some non-budget projects. They usually give you a bigger playground as it comes to creativity and time. In my country we have some jobforums specialized in motion. I signed in to 2 projects just for experiance and portfolio material. And recently we made a short film -> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BDM6eZjm_Ew
We filmed it with a 70’s 35mm camera witch was very cool. It may not be the best editing ever, but at least it delivers material for my showreel.
Cheers

Thanks for the quick replies. I solved the problem by reinstalling Photoshop. The shadow right of the square is indeed not very visible. It´s hard to see, but its really there. The problem I mentioned in my second post, was really wierd. All blend options where on normal, and still it looked like some options where messed up. I forgot to take a screenshot so I can´t post it. And it´s quite hard to explain.
But thanks anyway.

i found another problem. when I use the pippet, it selects the right color. But when I confirm the color change to a shape, it takes a complete other color.

Hi Jim,
Thanks for your reply. To bad you didn’t figured it out allready. It’s actually quite anoying. I get them to play the audio in source monitor but only when I set the audio track from 1 to 2. Really wierd. But I got over 190 clips so it will be a lot of work to switch them all.

Sorry, it’s mono. My friend got this footage of his xdcam and did “log and transfer” in FCP. And the result of that is a quicktime movie witch seems to have 2 monologe audio channels.
My biggest issue at the moment is that when I set the source channel mapping settings to ignore channel one, I actually see the waveform on the the source monitor. But PP just refuses to play it. In the bin preview its possible to hear it. But not in source. And thats actually quite difficult when you need 191 clips to be eddited on their sound.
Sorry for my bad english.

Hi Adam,
I am having kind of the same problems. My source monitor refuses to play any audio even though I kan see the waveform after doing some source channel mapping.
Did you find a sollution allready?

Did you allready found the sollution? I am having kind of the same problems. And it makes it really hard to edit without previewing the sound. I allready figured out I had to do some sound channel mapping. So my files have audio in the bin preview. And in the source monitor they show a waveform but it still refuses to play the sound.
