    how awesome. Thanks!

  • hmm, I understand the tracking is integral to being able to stabilize, hence I do not see how to make them two separate steps.

well I updated to vegas build 295, quicktime export now actually does something, but the exported quicktime file is completely black, no matter what setting I use. I have installed latest qt in windows for vegas and in mac for playback (my goal is to edit Sony TD10 footage in mac environment).

Very frustrating! I just want to work with the footage off this camera without going through more than one transcoding! Any ideas out there why exported qt files are black? same playback result on windows or pc.

    Thanks Mike,

I know what you mean but alas that is not the case here. What happens is that the render process begins as with other codecs (eg AVI) but finishes, states “completed”, without actually having created a video file. If i switch the codec for the same timeline render to AVI it will work fine. Something to do with the QT codec I think, but what?

    Thanks for your thought though.

John, I’ve been trying to find why Vegas will not export quicktime on my computer. I am using Vegas in Parallels on my mac dual core 2.64 ghz. I have quicktime Pro installed, also quicktime 10. Whenever I export to Quicktime, it performs it in a couple seconds, and in fact no .mov file was created, just a sony .sfl reference file. I suspect that it has to do with the QT version vegas can work with but do not know how to rectify.

I am wanting to export left and right streams from stereo 3D Sony TD10 footage, and the only solution so far is render as AVI (I do one channel, L or R, at a time). Even uncompressed, i am not impressed with the video quality. This isn ultimately for ingestion into Final Cut pro.

    Thanks for any thoughts…

    Hi Rob,

I have the same camera and wish to convert S3D to FCP friendly format, and have been unsuccessful exporting anything quicktime from the TD10 in vegas. Do you know if it has to do with quicktime version 10 being on our system and if so, do you know a workaround? I still have QT 7 on system, but vegas does not appear to be using it.

Hi Arnie…just curious if you’ve gone with Neo3d and how you find it? how about outputting to the Panasonic monitors, or authoring 3d blu-ray?

just in case this helps others who come across this…

I opened the card with Clip Browser on a machine running leopard, not Snowleopard, and was able to see the clips. transfer to hard drive went fine, until hitting a clip probably affected by a too-rapid camera shut down, or recording restart. Then the transfer stopped, the drive was not readable, and all the clips went black. When camera was turned on, the card needed a restore, and the clips were viewable on the camera.

So it appears that in Snow leopard, if a clip is corrupted on the card, the whole card is unreadable. It requires an incremental transfer on a non-snow leopard machine.

Thanks for the suggestion. this was my first go, and I was converting right from the camera to the drive, either through fcp or standalone XDCAM transfer. I’ve also copied the folder over to my hard drive and used XDCAM transfer, however I’ve learned from Craig I should use Clip Browser and CRC checking to guarantee preservation of master data when copying. i have not yet determined how to copy files over with this app, or what CRC checking is. I’d been using Clip Browser 2.0 and copying files with it was not clear. I’ve downloaded 2.6 and will try that when I have a chance.

am also curious if reformat should clear a bad sector on a card, or if the hardware is permanently faulty.

    Thanks Craig!

I find it interesting the camera firmware does not inhibit powerdown or recording when a writing action is not finished (a phenomenon I’ve grown accustomed to in my digital still camera!). I will definitely keep my eyes on the slot lights next time. It reminds me of working with the Red camera.

No I have not used clip browser first, and indeed, I see how it makes sense to if it can check the raw data on import. I was relying on the transferred version as my master copy, but having the raw data is ideal. what was i thinking? I am not familiar with the transfer function of clip browser, or CRC, and am downloading the latest version now to check it out.

next I’ll be wondering if there is any software to tweak the picture before wrapping as a .mov file…but that might be redundant. I suspect there is no extra information, such as in a RED raw file, to tweak before transferring to a .mov, since (if i understand correctly) no futher compression takes place in the transfer.

Many thanks for the heads up, and generous time and detail in your response. This has been an enlightening day.
