John,
I thought the Mxf files you referred to were the ones that were recorded simultaneously on the SxS slot. I think the two formats you refer to are XAVC and Raw? Sorry to have misled you on that.Having said that, what version of After Effects are you using?
Adobe have been very busy of late and the latest version is CC 2014 does include support for F55 cameras. Raw and XAVC.See: https://helpx.adobe.com/after-effects/using/whats-new.html
If you would like to upload some small clips to Dropbox I will run a test.

Hi, the simple answer is yes! AE can handle Mxf files.
However, as you see from earlier replies in this thread, handling Audio is more challenging. Mxf (certainly from PMW cameras) is imported into PPro (bear with me) with about 8 audio channels – 2 internal, 2- external and 4 mixes of the above). the 4 real channels could/do contain in sync audio. Someone suggested opening the clips in Premiere Pro and then sending the clips you want to AE for editing via Adobe Dynamic Link. It also works! However it looks a bit awkward, AE recognizes the video and audio sent as a group. It looks odd trying to apply a lens flare to an audio channel (in AE) but it all works.
I think you get a one month eval for CC 2014, so you can try it.
If you have a short clip of Mxf and a short clip of Raw fro the F55 I will give it a try. There are Raw plug-ins that should help as well but I’ve not tried those.

August 21, 2014 at 5:22 am in reply to: Movie Studio Platinum 13 – Marks not saved in TrimmerHi,
I don’t know about Platinum but on Pro, at the bottom right of the trimmer window the last button is “Save Markers/Regions (S)”. It is very easy to forget to press that, as I know from experience 🙁

I have a pc with that spec. (roughly) and it works just fine with SVP 13 (latest build).
Assuming you are in desktop mode, on the task bar, right click and select “Task Manager”. Once that is running, select the performance tab and there you can click on memory to see what’s going on. Once there you can click on “Open Resource Monitor” (at the bottom) and see where all your memory is going.
I have W8.1+ Professional Edition (things may be a little different if you only have a normal edition).
Also I have the very latest patches – I don’t know if you heard but patch Tuesday was botched last week so don’t rush to get those updates until MS publish the all clear.mark

Hi,
probably not what you want to hear but on the specification on for the GV-HD700 is the line: NOTE: 720/30p cannot be played back via i.LINK/IEEE 1394 interface.Does your camera have a fire-wire connection, perhaps go direct?

July 16, 2014 at 4:33 pm in reply to: Converting AVCHD (.mts) to H.264 => Which are the best container output (.mp4 .mkv .avi .mov) considering further editing in Vegas?Hi
my 2 cents, AVCHD really is H.264 so I wouldn’t be expecting very much more compression. You might find a better codec implementation which will compress more than your original but … Sony already recommend AVCHD as a good editing format. The better format is MPEG2 long gop but that will not benefit from the enhancements in AVC.Sony published a paper it: https://pro.sony.com/bbsccms/assets/files/micro/xdcam/solutions/MPEG-2_Long_GoP_vs_AVC_Comp-Strategies.pdf

thanks for that, it doesn’t quite work. The shortened clip comes over to AE but it still remembers where it was in the original clip. Further, when I try to roto brush it, full memory returns of the whole clip. I know Adobe are trying to protect me from destructive edits.
I have a clip which includes show storefronts we have no permission to show. I made a page in photoshop which masks out all the store signs I don’t want to show. It works well, apart from the one sign which is at the same level as my subject walking across the screen. He appears to be behind the mask (as expected). I was hoping to rotoscope him out and to be placed on a layer above the mask.

Dave.
thanks I’m still developing this, I may have H.264 at the end of the process, i.e. after a final sound mix. What I would like is Mxf to Mxf, with the video part edited but the audio it was carrying just left as it was.I haven’t tried calling AE from Premier yet, that sounds like a good idea tough.

Dave,
thanks for prompt reply. I’ve updated the post, I’ve been working too long today already 🙁
I know there are four audio channels – Int Left, Int Right, xlr 1, xlr 2. I’m editing with Vegas and it shows the channels. PPro would as well.mark

Chas, just in case, you need to get filezilla from the right place, e.g.
https://filezilla-project.org/
on that front page they tell you how to verify that the software is the correct. They also tell you about the “software bundlers” that cause the problems.
