    Simon,

Who crapped in your coffee this morning?

I haven’t seen this kind of vitriol over a perfectly innocuous spot in quite some time.
Your vehement insistence that this spot is rubbish is quite over the top. The spot is what it is.

Your reaction to it is puzzling. So, to balance out your vomitus spew of negativity, here’s my opinion:

I thought it was well shot, edited and effective. I LOVED the fact that they “assembled” the cut in the back of the car. That was a brilliant tie-in to an outstanding “feature” that only the Bentley can offer (His & Hers fold down iPads!)

The message was on point. The execution was first rate. The “assembled in the car” twist was a nice message to this community that we really have entered a new world order where expensive, exclusive tools are no longer needed to make quality images for clever marketing campaigns. Haters can hate, but I appreciate the leap forward in technology and production craft that this spot represents.

    Mr. Zelin Speaks the truth!

  • But in DC, there are some specific locations around the capitol, whitehouse etc. that are “permit free”
zones that the network use on a daily basis for the classic stand ups.
Find those and your good to go.

    Scott,

You want another opinion? FCP -X is the “3D” of this year’s NAB…. nowhere to be found!

  • Edward,

First of all, I agree with everything that Shane said. It’s AT LEAST double!!! Let’s say six weeks.

Here’s something else to consider. WHO determines when it’s done or locked? Is this project being done for a specific distribution channel or network? Do they have a say in the content? Will there be “external” notes? This is what will stretch out the process unpredictably. Since those kind of notes (and their timing) is out of your control, I would make sure that you are getting paid by the day and that the clock is ALWAYS ticking. In other words: While you’re waiting for notes you still get paid!

Many networks write specific times into their contracts regarding how long they have to respond to notes. 48-72 hours is quite common.

In summary: Six to seven weeks MINIMUM for this. Probably more. You get paid by the day, not the project. Otherwise you will be subsidizing the producer/network. Good luck.

For me, the take away from this announcement is that AVID is stepping up and taking a leadership role again in our industry. They’re articulating a plan to accommodate all players (small, medium, and large), and introducing significantly innovative products.

I’m looking forward to digging into the details tomorrow at their booth.

    Ah, c’est la vie!

I’ll see you somewhere in the miles of aisles.

  • And… if you have an AVID based workflow, the ability to right to DNxHD is a HUGE timesaver!

    Sony got this right!

[Mathieu Ghekiere] “With FCPX changing a lot of editing paradigms, suddenly you start thinking about all the things that could be better.

I know everyone here loves the “automobile” comparisons, so here we go.

When Tesla created their “paradigm shifting”, award winning, disruptive version of the car of the future, they still kept the concept of four wheels on the road. They could of gone with a tricycle design (See Aptera), but they kept what worked, and changed everything else.

    I’d argue that FCP-X is a tricycle.
