I have also found that keyframing the luminance from 100 to 0% (or vice versa) gives a much more “film-like” dissolve if that’s what you’re looking for.

I’m just passing along information I read on a Vimeo forum. I have not verified the accuracy, but it’s something you may want to try.

Someone there said that your horizontal resolution needs to be evenly divisible by 16.

Again, they could be full of lutefisk, but they said that since they started following that guideline, they never had the green line problem again.

I suffered from various bad-ergonomics-related issues for years: 25 years in various IS roles. I seem to spend the majority of my life staring at some type of computer screen.

My salvation came when I went to work for a hospital who had a professional staff ergonomist. The first thing she did was order me a new desk and chair and completely rearrange my office. Then she taught me how to correctly adjust my chair to provide good back and forearm support. My monitors were height-adjustable, but the desk surface was still too low so she added a monitor shelf. Now my monitors are directly level in front of me when my head and neck are in an upright, neutral position.

After all that, she enrolled me in therapeutic stretching classes at our Health & Fitness Center. The beginner classes started in a heated pool, then moved to stretching on mats, then on to weight training and swimming.

It’s now 5 years later. I’m 43 years old and I feel better now (and I’m in better shape) than I was when I was 23. As she says, “It’s 50% ‘stop sitting wrong’ and 50% ‘stop sitting’ (i.e. get your butt out of the chair and get some exercise)”

  • I guess what you don’t understand is that I *AM* trying to helping you. The answer to your problem is: Get a Mac. I’m not trying to be snarky.

And if you’re trying to teach people how to be productive on Final Cut Pro, then they’re learning a valuable lesson: don’t try running it on non-supported hardware. And another valuable lesson: if you DO choose to run it on non-supported hardware, don’t go begging for support on a forum filled with professionals, because we’re just going to tell you that you should do it right and not screw around with cheap, non-supported hardware.

Honestly, for the amount of money (and time) you probably have invested in building (and now troubleshooting) your hackintosh, you could have easily found a good, used PowerMac G5 (~$500 last time I looked), totally capable of running Final Cut Pro and completely supported.

  • Well, let me give you the highly sanitized and extremely compressed version of how Bob might respond.

    Get a Mac.

  • [nicholas wylie] have a hackintosh…at residency program with 45 people who need to be able to use final cut

Bob Zelin will be happy to help you. 😉
