yes, one i forgot, if you are connecting the camera via usb or firewire (i assume) then there is a message ON THE CAMERA which you MUST say yes to before FCP can see the camera!
it says something like “do you want the camera to act as a usb hard drive” or something which you must OK or YES.
that is probably the problem

hello Markus,

are you importing directly from the memory stick via FCP, or did you copy the media off the stick to the hard drive first.

if you copy to the hard drive first, the files are MP4 and final cut will not open them via XDCAM Trasfer.

the correct way is to put in the memory stick, import XDCAM via FCP and FCP opens XDCAM Transfer which will convert the MP4 clips to MOV and they will automatically show up in FCP.

If you have already imported the clips to your mac via XDCAM Transfer, then they are already MOV but you will have to import the clips to FCP as you would a regular MOV file, not using XDCAM import… but then i think you loose any metadata which would be retained if you did it the correct way.

at least this is what i understand.

Hi there Craig.
Most of our work IS for viewing on computer, or being projected onto a screen via a computer, so progressive 1080 would probably be best.

A question though… wouldnt shooting 1080p be the same thing as shooting 1080i and then rendering the final video to a HQ WMV file 1080 progressive? Or is there a difference?

on a mac you need the XDCAM transfer utility to copy the stuff off the disk, and XCCAM EX Clip Browser to delete all the clips to carry on shooting on that stick.

really its better to have FCP on the laptop and ingest directly there because you will not have to import the clips separately. There is a bug however where you get 2 or 4 icons instead of one when ingesting to FCP.

Hi Gary, thanks for the reply, thats a great pity.

Ive read a little about the hi5, but its is more than twice the price once you buy the separate power supply. About $900 in the UK…

There is the Matrox one, but thats even more, and does all sorts of things I dont need.

Anything else, something that could use the HD SDI output from the LHe and turn that into HDMI.

Sean, my 1920×1080 TV set has a DVI input socket. I connecte the macbookpro to that socket but the display does not take up the whole screen. it seems to be a more 4×3 aspect ratio that is being output… any idea how to make the macbook/digial cimena output full 1080?
