    Many thanks for your response.

I have heard about 10 b & c losing source TC. Unfortunately, I have tried sample clips on version 9c and it still has the issue of not recognising source/native clip timecode.

If I drop the same clip into FCP the source timecode is displayed in the information next to the clip in the bin, so I know it is there.

I have seen source TC in captured video in this version, so I know it can do it sometimes.

I think this is an issue with Vegas not recognising or simply ignoring certain formats of metadata, in this case, Quicktime.

No, it’s definitely SD PAL DV. Rendering to AVI completes almost instantly with the ‘No Recompression Required’ message across the preview window.

It is when I try to export as .mov uncompressed that I get problems.

Interestingly enough, I have since found that if, when I go to adjust the render settings, I choose ‘use project settings’ in the drop down box, Vegas seems to flick to NTSC.. But the camera I used was definitely PAL, and checking on the properties on the timeline it confirms DV PAL.

Also, when I allow vegas to render as NTSC, the aspect ratio seems correct (if still bordered by black) but the footage seems to have that ‘digitalised’ sheen across the dark areas.

Rendering as MPEG II DV PAL gives me what I would expect, a full 16:9 screen…

So, I am still unfortunately flummoxed!

I appreciate I have a long way to go to fully understand the implications of every single different codec/setting etc… and that I am probably asking a question with an obvious answer, but any help would be appreciated!

  • As far as I can remember, (I am no great authority on this!) you set the iLink conv. to ‘ON’ (in the AV menu on the Z1) and at the top of the same menu select DV instead of HDV. You’ll know if it’s worked as the light by the firewire port should change from HDV to DV.

Thats if it’s the same as the HVR – Z1N that is!

    Hope that helps!

Thank you so much for your quick response.

Will this converter be able to convert the rushes as an entire batch ready for me to edit them in Vegas, or will I need to do a drop them all onto the timeline and export them out of FCP as .MXF/
    ProRes?
