[Dennis Radeke] “Trial limitations (there aren’t really any) for Premiere Pro”
Hi Dennis,
having looked through the ‘Trial limitations ‘ list I notice it includes XF Mpeg2 and XDCAM EX so does that mean that the files from my C300 will not be imported?
I’m sure that’s not the case but maybe you could reassure me that I’ve misunderstood the list.
thanks

The grid generator I use is:
https://www.digital-heaven.co.uk/dh_grid
It’s free and very easy to use. You can adjust both the number of divisions, the thickness of the lines, and the colour of the lines.
They also have a plugin called DH Box which allows you to create moves – might be worth having a look at.
And as Richard Herd points out – this might be something that would be easier to accomplish in Motion.

For anything complex about 10min.
However I’ve just done a 70 min multi cam.

You’re describing a program that acts like it’s running 10 years in the past.”
Yup.
And I’ve stopped using Magic Bullet because watching paint dry is more fun as they say.
But I’m still using it because it does things for me that no other NLE does!
And I’m just completing my 30th project on FCPX.
And it works brilliantly with EOS C300 Files.
And whens it working well you can see what the designers were getting at.

April 29, 2012 at 7:14 pm in reply to: Final Cut Pro X and the Road to Hell (and back again) by Rick YoungI’m amazed Rick returned to FCPX after the experiences he had.
I’ve had similar, not quite as extreme, situations myself.
No, it’s not operator error, its beta software meltdown.
But now those situations with crazy spinning balls, trashing preferences, re-downloading the core software, etc etc , seem to have largely disappeared with FCPX 10.0.4.
I’ve learnt how to avoid trouble I guess, minimise compound clip use, edit with rendering turned off, keep project sizes to a manageable length, and then compile the finished programme. A bit like writing a book, working on individual chapters and then finally compiling it into the finish piece.
So a bit more love than hate at the moment.
I look forward to the next update – and the one after that.

April 25, 2012 at 3:59 am in reply to: Guardian – Why doesn’t apple employ more US workersFor those without jobs in the USA and the people who are forced to work in almost penal conditions in China and the far East it’s a lose lose situation really.
And for Apple a double win.
And for us elite consumers a convenient way of getting out hands on products that year on year do the same job better.
However Apple aren’t alone with this business model, just a lot better at it than other companies.
It’s a tiered global capitalist system at its finest and it’s happening with all kinds of products and services from computer and phone manufacture, to the service industry, through to agriculture.
It’s also a truly global market place for those seeking unskilled work. Here in the UK most of the service industries almost predominantly employ cheap labour and the same applies to fruit picking, car washing and domestic work.
Steve Jobs was a perfectionist, an enabler, an inspirational leader. However he was not a philanthropist and the company he founded is not known for its charitable works. That’s been left to Bill Gates, God bless him.
Sure Apple employ a bunch of people around the world but wouldn’t it make us all feel better if they either paid more for the manufacture of their products, insisted on far better working conditions and pay in the Chinese Factories, lowered their profit margin, or did more with the unbelievable wealth they have acquired through their highly effective business model.
Or as the Guardian article suggested, create new Jobs in the US and take a lower margin.

April 16, 2012 at 5:49 pm in reply to: Timecode generator / reader to display source timecode?Thank’s for the response but none of these solutions actually reads and displays the originally timecode from the clips.
They display the project timecode, which is useful for a completed master file but not for providing a client with a copy of the rushes with burnt in time code.
I’m sure there would be a solution somewhere but it has not been developed yet.
So for the first time since last summer I’m going to do some work in FCP7.

April 16, 2012 at 6:32 am in reply to: Apple tells about features coming in 2012 to Final Cut Pro XI’m not so sure I want 2 monitors after all.
I am so used to skimming, using the event browser, the fact that the monitor switches so seamlessly, that
2 monitors will just clutter up the window. This must have been the original thinking, to de-clutter.
However the proposed audio editing tools will be most welcome.
