Sure – I’ve not been tempted by any 3rd party iPad control surface apps to date.

But if it were designed by Apple to compliment the FCPX I would imagine it would be a useful thing to speculate about.

It would have to be pretty good for me to invest in a new iPad anyway.

There is built in iPad control surface support with the app waiting on the app store to download.

Unfortunately it won’t work with my Version 1 iPad as it requires IOS6.

I’m just speculating but it wouldn’t surprise me to see this iPad control surface being implemented into the next FCPX upgrade.

Well, I’m excited!

This could finally be the route through the North West Passage to a reasonably hassle free FCPX Audio I/O mix down that we have been waiting for.

£139.99 here in the UK. I’ve got money in the business account and it would be so easy just to press that inviting button but I’ll do some homework first.

Would it be advisable to strip out the existing copy of Logic ( vers 9.1.8 ) from the hard drive?

I’m pretty happy with the way 10.0.8 is working for me.

I’m getting really high quality edits out of the system now, limited only by my ability really.

Most of the bugs that used to totally frustrate me have disappeared and its very rare these days to have spinning ball freezes or have to revert to the ultimate sanction – Force Quit.

I would love to see improvements in the Color and Audio department – and I think these will be addressed. I would also like to be able to send selections direct to Motion and back without having to create exported movies.

The wish lists in this thread are really detailed, well thought out and mostly very desirable and I would just like to add a few simple visual organisational ideas.

1. Ability to copy / paste list view in events library so that it can be printed off – added to documents. You can copy and paste text into FCPX – be great to be able to do it the other way round to share with collaborators or clients.

2. Ability to organise Effects Browser within FCPX – could be a simple hierarchal list by adding numerals or letters to Fx within browser. Or maybe Artificial Intelligence could create an ‘Effects Manager’

3. Split Video and Audio Effects into two windows.

4. Ability to resize / split / arrange / save all windows in FCPX just like we used to be able to do and just how we still can do in Compressor.

5. Ability to view project library as a simple list – without the small viewer window – it all takes up too much screen estate and can be hard to navigate around.

6. Ability to change clip height with a keyboard command rather than opening the clip appearance box.

Why don’t you just wait a couple of months and, if your budget will stretch, buy the new MacPro. You will then have the very best possible machine for running the software you list. The next version of FCPX is going to be optimised to work with the new machine.

If you really need to buy right now I’d really recommend the 3.4 GHz Intel Core i7, 27″ iMac with as much memory you can afford. It works beautifully and you will have avoided all the painful teething problems most of us have encountered over the last 2 years.

Yes, it’s well overdue based on the pattern we are used to.

However I think the next update is going to be huge. Apart from all the under the hood modifications to make the most of the new Mac Pro I’ve got a feeling that the appearance of the windows is going to have a radical overhaul, maybe matching the ‘lovely’ new pastel shades of iOS7 and Mavericks. The burnished grey plastic look will disappear, no more bevelled edges around the windows and possibly a new font.

I also hope that they will enabled faultless round tripping to Motion and Logic Pro expand and update the color correction functions.

But for me the real excitement is waiting for the new MacPro.

I think Technicolor came into the market from the DSLR end of things, fitting in with their Cinestyle profiles camera settings. I might be wrong but I think the DSLR filming market has probably peaked and is on the decline.

Almost every camera manufacturer has now produced a large sensor camcorder type camera. Having bought a C300 ( almost paid it off! ) there is nothing that would induce me to film with a DSLR again although in the right hands DSLRs will knock the spots off most video cameras.

So it could be that the product was already out of date by the time it was launched and development costs v/s sales of turning the Ap into a professional rather than prosumer product just didn’t stack up.

And the ‘looks’ packages for FCPX are mostly a total waste of money, easily replicated in FCPX, and a hugely oversubscribed area of what must be a fairly small plugin market place.
