Also make sure in Liquid thaty you are set up to 16:9, then in Boris in the prefs make sure that “Host settings” are applied.

Liquid does not pass along alpha information to Red. To do what want to do, create a “dummy” layer in Liquid ie color clip, then apply the Boris filter to it. Go into Boris, close the visibilty of the color clip, then import your elements directly from their hard drive locations.

I am using Boris Red with Liquid Blue and this solution works for me.

Down at the bottom of the timeline, towards the left you will see a trinagle with a line to the right of it, kind of looks like a next track button on a cd player….push that button, you will now have everything back.

July 12, 2005 at 1:52 pm in reply to: How do you zoom into a video clip?

Mark, sounds good, but if you increase to 110%, then you are effectively growing the pixels by 10%….If there are no extra pixels, they can only be grown…you cannot introduce extra resolution, ie the new image cannot have more resolution than the original.

    Thanks

July 11, 2005 at 5:37 pm in reply to: Boris Extrusion Back Texture Flipping

This is why I like to nest tracks to faces, and not to use the standard import buttons that you can use on the faces….create a new 3d plane, map the psd file to that track, then drag that track to the back face of the extrusion….you know have full layer controls on the back face, whereas you can now add filters, position, zoom etc, and at the media level of the nested track you can choose to flip the image, it will not be affected by the extrusion….

You can zoom into the video using scale, but it is like the old digial zoom that they sell you on camcorders…..you increase the size of Pixels…..zoom it too much, and you will see the pixels…..to create these types of shots effectively, you need some pretty high resolution footage, such as film. VHS will look pretty crappy, even at 100 scale, imagine zooming, it will look worse.

Red previews to an external monitor using firewire.

You can force a preview to another monitor by using the “Display HQ to monitor” in one of the pulldown menus, but it won’t show real-time updates and previews.

Take the face, create a new spline object and create an outline of the face….then extrude the spline object layer and map the face to the front of the extruded object. Check out Tim Rice’s tutorial on making a 3d logo, it will get you going in the right direction.

June 21, 2005 at 1:27 pm in reply to: Editing Episode III

    Well,
Maybe I’ll be the only one, but I loved it !!!!! I thoroughly enjoyed the entire movie. Over the years I have developed my way of de-plugging the editor in me and simply enjoying a good flick with the wife. No trying to figure out what why and when the cuts fx etc are done, rather just sitting back, letting the story in, and throwing some good old fashioned greasy popcorn down. Movies lost their flair when I used to over-evaluate them and watch for continuity errors….no more !!!!!

I will definately buy the DVD when it comes out at Christmas packaged as a trilogy with parts 1 and 2.
