    Hi there,

I’ve just read this post. I have a similar problem. I did converted
AVCHD into H.264 codec thanks to an ignorant friend who likes to show off she knows about video edition.

I don’t know much myself about editing.

I need some help with this footage I have to edit with final cut pro 5. I was told to convert my AVCHD into apple intermediate codec. I understand that. Though I do not know which format to use. Mov-Mpeg 4?
Size? Right now I have this:

    1280×720
    mpeg 4
    h.264 ACC

I obtained this files after transcoding with Emisoft converter of M2ts for mac.

When I imported this to final cut, I had to select the sequence settings to:

    frame size: 1280×720
    aspect ratio:HDTV 720p (16:9)
    square
    anamorphic not check
    compression h.264

Obviously, i have been finally able to check by myself what the knowledgable guys said: that you can’t edit with h.264. i can cut the sequence but it doesnt even allow me to do any simple edit.

I would really appreciate CLEAR ADVICE OF WHAT TO DO WITH THE H.264 files i already have. Should i convert this again to apple intermediate codec? which format should i use? i would like to be able to edit and keep good quality in order to export for internet and also for a dvd.

please, I need less ‘showing off’ and someone who can really explain things to help and not to confusing learners.

    many thanks.

    ml

    Thanks Craig.

But i’m trying to figure out to what codec i convert m2ts files with Emicsoft converter which hasn’t got the option of Apple intermediate codec. Plenty of options but not that one. Streamclip does convert to Apple intermediate codec but it doenst support m2ts files so I had to converted m2ts into hd h.264 first.

nothing makes sense. I need help from the very beginning, meaning that I must convert these m2ts before import them in FC. I have an old version of FCP and anyway in the case i had the last version of FCP, I would only be able to import this footage by capturing directly from camcorder through log and capture window.

so…any idea of what to do?

    thanks again.
