I did test actual beta version on mac book pro.
I could run red 1/8 r3d on pal playback mode in real time.
This mac book had 1 ati gpu for regular stuff and nvidia gpu for serious stuff.
I think it is really powerful for making looks etc at home.
You have to realize you are running stuff on laptop still. You can not abuse it.
But still red native files on laptop in realtime.I still amazed as hell.

You also have to think about your internal external array.
I myself are really likely to go with 12 cored pro as some red stuff operation is also cpu intensive.

I have had totally different impression with regular desktop. Vista is like oooomyyy.
Probably have to go with xp then.
