Michael – A note in case useful (way after the fact, now that I’m looking on the dates on this thread, but maybe you’ll see it.) If you’re working on a PC, check out AutoHotKey.com.

It’s an open source free key-mapping/mouse-click-mapping (plus does much more) utility I discovered.

You can learn to do simple mappings quickly, and, if you want to put in the time, pretty sophisticated scripts that save an amazing amount of time.

If you’re on a Mac, I’m guessing there are similar utilities.

    olleh sitruc,

Thanks for your .02 cents of advice. I’d say it was worth .03 at least! 🙂

Seriously, though, I appreciated your take on things. I’m not a fan of spending hours and hours debugging issues that will (hopefully) become non-issues in the not-too-distant future. So, yours seems a very common sense approach. To some extent, it seems some folks use style sheets exclusively cause “all the cool kids are doing it”… 🙂

When it comes to web-based stuff, it seems that figuring out *which* tools & technologies make the most sense to use can take as much effort as actually learning to use them.

    Thanks Curtis,

I agree, the sheet got more complicated than need be. I’m curious though (if you have time for another question), which categories of things, in general, you think are best controlled by css elements, and which are not?

I’m asking because from what I’ve read so far, many css advocates (csszengarden.com is one example) advise controlling Every aspect of layout and formatting via style sheets (though a tad more efficiently than I’ve done so far :-).

  • Dave,

Thanks. The steps you describe are exactly what I can do, and plan to do. I’m curious, do you happen to know that what I want to do is *not* possible in Premiere? (Just cause I’ve invested time in setting up the Premiere project and am more familiar with Premiere than AE.)

If I don’t figure out analogous capabilities in Premiere (before tomorrow! :-), it sounds like it is worth my spending some number of hours figuring out how to use AE to re-create my effects. So I can then, hopefully, draft most of this project over the weekend as efficiently as possible.

    Thanks again for the answer.
