That is very helpful, Bill. (And by the way, Lost Skeleton of Cadavra is a very funny movie — basically the kind of thing Ed Wood would’ve done 20 years ago if he had had the time and money. Hilarious!)
There are still some holes in Fairlight that they are working on (including finishing the Resolve 14 manual), but it’s getting there. Surround sound is a big part of that.

The interface is not super-obvious, but it does work. One setting some people use is using TNR luma-only and SNR chroma-only, which you can make a good argument softens the picture a bit less.

I’ve never been impressed with Magic Bullet. I think Neat Video noise-reduction has some fans out there, but I think it’s very, very slow to use, so take that into consideration. The current version of TNR and SNR in Resolve 14 are actually pretty good; one key some have advised is to use the Luma-only mode for TNR and the Chroma-only mode for SNR.

September 18, 2017 at 2:02 am in reply to: update resolve 12.5 to 14 and continue working on the ongoing projects from 12.5Yes, that should work. I would absolutely back up both the 12.5 project database and any recent projects (as DRPs) to make sure there are no issues.
At the worse, if there’s a problem with Resolve 14, you could always delete that and reinstall Resolve 12.5, then restore the 12.5 database and/or import the project.

It is possible to rebuild the project in 12 again, but it takes some time and patience. Basically, you use XMLs to reconform the media and then import stills for all the corrections. Laborious and time-consuming, but it can be done and I have lived to tell the tale. -
Be warned that there are limitations with the Apple App Store version…

Read pp. 660-661 of the Resolve 14 manual: “Limitations When Grading With the Viewer on a Computer Display.”
Get a monitor that can be calibrated, get it calibrated, then attach it to your computer with a Blackmagic display adapter (like a Mini Monitor or 4K Ultra). Problem solved.

I personally wouldn’t mix frame rates, and I wouldn’t use H.264 material. I would convert the H.264 to something in which I can embed reel names and timecode numbers.
FCPXML is actually fairly sophisticated and can bring in quite a few things, including dynamic repositions and a bunch of other stuff. I generally use that if I have to bring an XML into another Resolve session as well.

Did you export a backup copy of the project? The deleted timeline should still exist in that project.
I’m paranoid enough that I save backup DRPs every single day (sometimes twice a day if it’s supervised and I get a lunch break), and I try to backup the Project Database once a week. It’s rare I delete anything and have to do a restore, but it has happened.

Right-click in the Project Menu to Import the DRP, bring it in, and once it’s done then open this project. It should “in theory” work.
Is it not possible to contact the original colorist for advice?
