All the hand wringing about this. I don’t care about FCP-X’s pedigree, just so long as it works. Yes, do take iMovie for a spin. I was really surprised with it’s capability and performance. This was weeks ago before NAB. Realtime effects previews had me gob smacked.

Just because a new editing paradigm showed up first in the ‘shape’ of iMovie doesn’t mean it’s ‘shape’ isn’t the new paradigm, if you get what I mean 🙂

April 16, 2011 at 5:40 am in reply to: fix the Autosave function

Anybody experience , like me, the ASV just not actually working. Set the period, wait for an autosave. Nothing…

Might all be moot anyway with the release of Lion with “Autosave” and “Versions”

    from Apple’s website:

“Autosave” Say good-bye to manual saving. Auto Save in Mac OS X Lion automatically saves your work — while you work — so you don’t have to. Lion saves changes in the working document instead of creating additional copies, making the best use of available disk space. The lock feature prevents inadvertent changes from being saved and automatically locks documents after two weeks. And the revert feature returns you to the state the document was in when you last opened it, so you can feel free to experiment with confidence.*

“Versions” Versions records the evolution of a document as you create it. Mac OS X Lion automatically creates a version of the document each time you open it and every hour while you’re working on it. If you need to revert to an older version or retrieve part of a document, Versions shows you the current document next to a cascade of previous versions — in an interface similar to that of Time Machine — so you can see how your work looked at any given time. You can revert with a click, or quickly copy and paste work from a previous version into the current version.*

April 16, 2011 at 5:20 am in reply to: FCPX: Trimming

I’ve never done this ‘superior’ asymmetrical trim’ the ‘superior’ beings keep harping on about. I trim using kb shortcuts in the timelne.
    V, U , left bracket , right bracket, backslash.

But yeah, there better be a way to do simple 3-point edits in FCP-X and a Gang feature or editors are going to have a cow.

The trim is the backbone of editing. They need to get this one right.

“Reports that say that something hasn’t happened are always interesting to me, because as we know, there are known knowns; there are things we know we know. We also know there are known unknowns; that is to say we know there are some things we do not know. But there are also unknown unknowns — the ones we don’t know we don’t know.”

From Larry’s blog “After the presentation, I spoke with Richard Townhill, Director of Pro Video Product Marketing for Apple (who served as the host for Apple’s presentation) who told me that “the purpose of today is to focus exclusively on Final Cut Pro, highlight some of the new features, and give people a chance to see and comment on the new interface. We will have much more to say about both Final Cut and our other applications in the future.”

Larry continues This does not mean these other applications are dead – simply that Apple is not talking about them… yet.”
