We are implementing AFD at my station.

Since most of our productions are HD, and being created using Final Cut Pro 7, it would really be helpful if our producers / editors could emit the correct AFD code to be inserted into the VANC with the program content when it’s rendered and written to media (in our case HDCAM).

The automatic format description describes the characteristics of the content so that down-stream devices can handle it properly during up and down conversion.

Our HDCAM decks support the AFD on line 11 (the configuration for VANC RX parameter is: 011 574 41 05

The AFD is a frame by frame characteristic of content. I know that the AJA Kona 3 cards we use can deliver the full VANC to Final Cut Pro, and can render it to SDI as provided by Final Cut.

A control at Print to Tape and Edit to Tape dialog time allowing us to pass the AFD present with each frame of video, or override it for the entire playout / edit to tape would be very helpful.

As it is now, we must use downstream devices to accomplish this.
