Brent…this is a known issue…it seems to occur more when shooting 720p60…workarounds include shielding camera from the direct sun,
powering down when possible(changing locations, etc), not a great situation for you in florida…i have not had any problems as of yet…
but i haven’t left the camera powered up in the fla heat for an extended
period…not what you want to hear i’m sure….

    Richard…i have not tried neoscene…others have…with mixed results…
mpeg streamclip lets you convert to many different formats…since i’m a fcp edit house i use what works for me…when i convert to prores the files play without render in a fcp timeline…there is a good 5d/7d site
that may yield some answers for you…search for “phillip bloom” and poke around there…he has a new dvd tutorial for sale…a little pricey
    but lot’s of info….

Many of us are using MPEG streamclip to convert to prores for editing in FCP…the native h.264 files that the 7d records to should not be used for editing…I’ve had better results using mpeg streamclip than compressor..mpeg streamclip software is easily found online…hopes this helps.

Greg…you still haven’t responded with the settings that you are shooting with…are you shooting in the manual mode? or is the camera on some sort of auto mode…are you using a fast cf card?…until we get some idea of the settings you are recording with it’s hard to offer real advice…sorry i didn’t see your profile…now I know you’re a veteran
broadcaster…are you a DP or a producer…big difference…just trying to help…there are many other sources for reference on the web…try phillip blooms site…he is based in the u.k….

Greg…also for viewing directly from the camera on hd tv, are you using an HDMI cable?…the other a/v output is only sd…viewed on an hd monitor with the a/v cable will give a poor result…do you have the latest software? take a look at the software from magic latern…gives you full manual control…hope this helps.

Greg…the settings you refer to are for still picture resolution – not video…you need to read the manual…also you should be working in the manual mode “M” for everything…turn off auto focus as well….you need to select frame size, as well as shutter speed, iris setting and iso…iso is very important- start with a setting of iso 100 in bright sun – go up to 400 for indoor – above 1200 does incur some noise…try a shutter speed of 60 for most stuff…125 for action sports and adjust your iris to the correct exposure from the internal meter….hope this helps…most folks are using some sort of eye piece viewfinder to see the lcd screen in bright sun…i got mine from IDC in arizona…you do need a basic understanding of videography and photography…

Most people are using old school double system….leave the camera mike on to record a scratch track…use your external digital recorder to record actual audio then synch using Pluraleyes software…check out phillip bloom website for extensive info on using the 7d…I’ve had mine about two weeks and have had good audio from the built in mike for just nat sound…i have a sony pcm-d50 digital audio recorder…also check out juicedlink audio adapters…lots of choices….
    regards,

I did a test shoot with the new 700 as well and noticed that when i brought the files into fcp they we’re .mov files but in the bin under info they we’re identified as sony ex files. Did you actually record to .mp4 files or .mov?
