I tried last night after converting some WMV HD clips to lower resolution MPG clips and so far preview has been working fine. In the past I have always used DIVX clips for editing and usually not too much trouble. I may convert these too.

What are the preferred video input formats for Sony Vegas Movie Studio (non-pro) ?

I’ll try to convert from WMV. I’ll need to do it for like a 100 clips. Is there a good utility for doing this at once instead of one by one? If I can select all and then let the utility do it, would save alot of time.

No I don’t necessarily need HD output…

My laptop is dual core 2.3 GHZ with 4GB running windows 7, but my PC is older running XP.

“If at all possible, use a different format for your source recordings. WMV and DIVX do not edit well in Vegas (and probably other editors too) as they’re heavily compressed formats and are only designed for playback.

If you have to capture in WMV, then you might need to transcode to another format that’s easier to edit. Try HDV (MPEG2 HD) for starters.

Does your output video need to be HD? If not (like if you’re rendering for a DVD) then you could try recording (or converting your recordings) to standard def rather than trying to edit HD.

What are your laptop and PC specs? CPU type/speed, RAM etc? You need a fairly beefy modern PC to edit HD video easily.
