Thank you very much, Rafael. This really does clarify it for me.

Steve,
I appreciate your taking the time to respond to my post. However, this does not really answer my question- which wasn’t whether or not I should use the filter but whether or not the filter is 10 bit friendly.
If anyone has experience with this, please let me know.
Thanks,
Maithili. -
Thanks, Steve, for the option. I will certainly look into it.
Meanwhile, however, I would really appreciate it if someone would be able to clarify this for me. Mostly, all posts I have come across where people have asked this question- here or elsewhere- they’ve been nudged towards checking something else out. Obviously, this isn’t the best option there is.
But… can one way color corrector handle 10-bit or not?

Hi Steve,
True. But should one decided to go for one way cc for any reason, can one way cc handle 10 bit or will it treat the clip as 8 bit?
Thanks,

September 9, 2012 at 12:39 am in reply to: FCP6, ProRes Sequence, and Canopus ADVC 110Thank you, Rafael and Shane. Your feedback has helped me a great deal.
My computer does not have Thunderbolt- the way I understand it, regardless of whether I use Canopus or my camcorder I would still be going out on Firewire, which means that I will not be able to take advantage of the 4:2:2 color space of ProRes given my current resources.
So then, if I would be as good as grading in 4:1:1, is there any other advantage to moving to ProRes either before or after color grading? I would like to make the most of what resources I do have.
(I apologize if this is a very basic question, I’m learning as I go along.)
Thank you for your time!

Thank you, Michael.
Just to confirm that I have understood this correctly:
In order to make use of the better color space of ProRes (while color grading in fcp6) I do not actually have to make new ProRes media clips- I can just create a new ProRes sequence, copy paste my whole sequence into it, and color grade in that – and I will have the advantage of ProRes’ better color space. Is that right?
Thank you very much for your time!

Hello Michael,
My capture preset was DV NTSC 48 khz.
My sequence preset is DV NTSC 48 kHz- 23.98
My compressor is DV/DVCPRO-NTSC.
Is this what you asked me?
(I apologize if I’m asking really basic questions. While I love the story aspect of editing, codecs and the tech part of it makes my head spin… )Looking forward to hearing from you.
Thanks,
Maithili
