your not dence lol its just as i was trying to explain using the normal trim functions was actually moving the time line of the film out of sync from where it was originally ment to be.

i still have no idea why it was doing this but using the ctrl S function seems to get around this problem.

i would prefer a way to stop the normal drag and trim functions from moving the film out of sync with its original position but if this is as good as it gets im happy to live with that.

    thanks again

no i have the frames turned off as i find them distracting and to save processing power they seem abit wasteful to me. but my problem as been solved… thank you for your time anyway!

thank you lol at last 🙂 ok yeah that exactly what i was trying to do although i dont understand why there isnt a button for this? and why the normal trim and dragging functions behave the way they do! surely to have them do this would be far more useful?

anyway thank you for solving my little dilema i thought i was about to go mad as i swear gary was on a wind up! lol

    all the best

lol ok no im not using volocity at the time it does exactly the same thing weather volocity is applied or not it makes no difference what so ever. the trim button is located in the toolbar at the top of the screen but you have to add it from the options > customise toolbar menu.

think of a 5 minutes film strip? a real one. on it you have lots of frames. now in that bunch of frames lets say i want 100 out of the 9000 that are there.

i would take a big pair of sissors and cut the frames i want out, chopped from both ends leaving me with the frames i want in the middle!

see in real life this wouldn’t suddenly turn into a diffenernt 100 frames from the same film strip! so i dont understand why vegas has such a hard time understanding this concept!

because for some reason the hundred frames i did have seem to of shifted to the right for no logical reason!

basically the frames that are in the focus area of the event box are being nudged to the right a certain percentage of what was removed from the left.

    thanks…

note: im using vegas 6d is this problem a know issue and if so why didnt they fix it before moving to vegas 7.

no… ok best way for me to explain is…

i have a 5 min clip of video and in the middle of that clip is a 5 second section that i want to single out and line up and lip sync with the music.

so without changing the lenth of the clip i move everything into its correct place so it lines up with the music, now what should be simple become really awkward.

trimming off the edges so i dont have any stuff that i dont want etheir side.

so i double click and select the area of video that i would like to keep and press the trim button. everything looks fine until you play the clip again where the clip has moved out of sync and is sometimes a completly new bunch of frames that where at least 10 -15 seconds away from where i cut it!

note: its the frames in the event box that change, NOT the postion of the event box in the timeline.

so this means i have to re expand the event box and go seaching for the frames i just had.

also another clear example is if i set velocity points when i drag from the right side they stay stationary but move when i drag from the left side. even stranger still is that this doesnt move if i trim the clip!

now if anyone could explain this please help? and is there away to stop it from doing so? it seems silly to me that this is actually ment to happen! i dont have auto ripple on just incase anyone asks.

no sorry i should of remembered to mention i have auto ripple turned off. it’s hard to explain when i move the left edge (im making a music video) what was originally in sync moves out of sync.

  • thank you! you solved my problem id compressed the video files to mpg4 to save on hard disk space as i have a fair bit of video. so using uncompressed files it runs fine. but this does take up one hell of a lot of disk space

so is there anyway of using the capture feature in vegas to change my videos to the vegas format directly fom my hard drive as i know longer have alot of the video on the camara,

i really dont want go through the nightmare process of loading everything back on to the camara and back through vegas as it would take forever! not to mention i dont think have the right connector for my video card atm.

or if any one knows a good video converter that will change files into dvsd DVC/DV Video format from uncompressed rgb!that would be great

    thanks

  • if you mean is it using 100% while the vegas is just sitting there doing nothing no. but if i press play it uses around 90%-100% yes! the pc really struggles to do even realy simple things.

ulf semed to think it was a motherbord problem but his problem seemed rather mild in comarrison to mine funnily we both had around the same kind of power of pc. his pc only skipped frames every so often.

mine just doesnt stop skipping you would think i had a 333mhz machine it’s struggling so bad! if the problem was only occisonal it wouldn’t really bother me.

what kind of power should it be using o the processer?

    cheers
