To me just doing a straight cut from one shot to the other would work well. A Transition might be too much.

300 DPI is the way to go. The lower the resolution the worse it’s going to look. Also try saving it as RGB instead of CMYK.

Check your export settings. I go between SD and HD quite a bit and from experience, I get busy and forget to change it. I hope that helps.
