  • Hi! Does anyone know if there is a solution for this yet? I’ve finally made the jump from Vegas to Premiere Pro CC 2017. I love the dynamic link with After Effects, and the ability to render with Adobe Media Encoder. But the switch is not coming without its share of frustrations.

I also want to click wherever I want in the timeline and have the playhead go where I click. Can’t find any way to set this behavior in PP preferences, but I’m hoping that I’ve just missed it. Anybody got it figured out?

    Cheers,
    Lori

  • I’m bumping this hoping that Norman can elaborate on the “Mask Generator” fix for DnxHD files alpha channels in Vegas, and what are the exact settings being used?

On VP 12 I have tried every permutation of this and it doesn’t really work. If I export a pure white text on a transparent background, that works well with the luminance mask, but anything else doesn’t look right in Vegas. If there are colors in what I want to show, they are still partially transparent.

    Cheers,
    Lori

  • Hi Ole, thanks! I think you posted while I was editing my original message. I’m working now with the “save as reference movie” think in Quicktime Pro 7. It’s working great so far, but I’m gonna transcode to mxf anyway once I get the source clips in. I have a long, complicated project to do and have had so much trouble with .movs through the years that I just want to avoid those suckers! :-p

  • Wooo, thanks John! Such a relief to have some concrete info. Great tip about disabling resampling (or not). I will try both and see what works.

For the audio, did you mean to use the Dolby Digital AC-3 Pro with the template : Stereo DVD for both the DVD and the Blu-ray audio?

    Cheers,
    Lori

  • Hop on in, Greg! The more the merrier 🙂

Just to clarify, I don’t have to actually burn anything. I just have to render out master video files for the guys who are doing the authoring. Their answers haven’t been helpful, so I’m hoping someone here can help out.

  • Thanks, John! Just bought it and will give it a try first thing tomorrow. Gonna be soooooo happy if it solves this annoying problem.

  • Thanks again, Aleksey. I understand that I can find duplicate media FILES with the built in Vegas search, but that still doesn’t really solve my problem. I might have 100 short events from the same FILE on my timeline. I need to see if there are any sections being used more than once. For instance, in this project I’m working on now, search tells me that one file was used 14 times. But it doesn’t tell me which timecode sections of the file have been used — if there’s a script or other way for Vegas to search and list those results, that would be awesome.

Another thing: I realized that even being able to find any single frames of a media file that appear on the timeline more than once, that would be enough. Is there a script you know of (or something inside of Vegas) that will search and display that info? That would be a heck of a lot better than choosing “select events on Timeline” from the Project Media window and having to manually navigate through and check visually if anything appears more than once. My brain is really bad at that, but it’s a perfect task for the computer.

This might seem like a dumb thing to need to do, but when you’re doing energetic videos with tons of cuts and short events, having a quick way to audit for duplicates would be a huge timesaver. Especially when you take over a project you didn’t edit from the beginning.

  • Thanks, Aleksey. I have Vegasaur. Unless I’m doing something wrong, it only finds clips that are exactly the same in/out timecode. I’ve tested this and if I change the length of one of the clips, it will no longer find them in an audit.

I need something that will find any timecodes at all that have been used more than once. Would be happy to buy a custom script to do that … any suggestions about how I might find one?

    Cheers,
    Lori

  • Thanks, Steve. I tried it and no joy, I’m afraid. The first marker I tried to insert added 20 hours to my timeline and jumped to the end.

  • Thanks for the tip, Roger. The frustrating thing is that Vegas worked PERFECTLY the first time. I am aware of the plugin, but am worried about investing more money if it wouldn’t solve the problem. It works within Vegas, if I understand correctly. Please correct me if I’m wrong!
