The sequence I am trying to export is in H.264, matching the raw footage from the 70d. I realize FCP doesn’t like to edit in H.264 – but I’m not editing anything, just plopping it and exporting. I’m able to do that just fine with the H.264 from the 60d.

I can’t figure out the difference with the 70d.

Hi guys –

I just wanted to follow up to say that the aliasing filter I got from Mosaic actually worked like a charm. They make them for the canon dslrs here:

I just popped it in and BOOM, weird blues gone.

I’m using nada – I took it out of the box and started shooting. 🙂

I just got it two weeks ago. After watching that aliasing video (here’s the link again: https://nofilmschool.com/2011/08/r-i-p-aliasing-problems-dslrs-filter-eliminates/ ) I’m guessing that’s the issue. Because what’s happening on the rug is super similar to what’s happening on my forehead.

I think at this point I’ve tried every setting, and I think it’s just an aliasing issue.

After just googling 60d and aliasing, a lot came up. This filter video for the 5d I think shows the problem well, and also shows a fix. Now to find a filter for the 60d that works as well! 🙂

Hi Steve!

Just tried converting to ProRes, and I also tried shooting in another room with completely different lighting. The issue persisted.

I also just tried jacking up the aperture all the way open, and the issue still persisted. UGH! This is sooo annoying and weird!!

Just tried to convert to ProRes. No difference. Just tried the camera out with the same settings in a completely different room with completely different lighting, and the issue was there, too….

Well, the issue is still occurring. One question I neglected to answer of yours was that the screen grab is from the raw output, H.264.

I tried your recommendations on turning sharpness all the way down; I tried different white balances, pre-set ones included; I tried the recommendations on your site link, Steve.

Is it possible the camera is just not well? I’m considering exchanging it for a new one.

I can’t seem to find anyone else having any kind of the same issue…

Hi John,

It’s a screen grab from video. I’ve never had this issue with any other video camera, so it’s weird!

I am using the portrait picture setting, but I also tried just standard.

I haven’t tried turning down sharpness, but I will! Will that make the picture blurry, though? I need the subject to look nice and high-def crisp.
