  • I had the same issue too and finally solved this problem on Premiere CS6 as of May 2018.
    Example on Timeline:
    – If you go over to where the “Audio 1” text is listed in the left area of the time line you will see a tiny ARROW pointing right. Click on it so that it points down (to reveal the waveform)
    – Only when the arrow is pointing down (revealing the wave form) will the timeline allow you to select track height with the following two options:
    > Select the the line (dividing “Audio 1” and “Audio 2” to move it up and down to adjust track height
    > Or you can set a keyboard shortcut by going to top Menu “Premiere Pro”>”Keyboard Shortcuts”> then type “track height” in search field. You will see the option to Decrease or Increase Audio Track height. Select either and click the “Edit” button then on your keyboard type the shortcut you want.

I realize that it is impossible to edit a project without being able to edit or see waveforms because editing is about IMAGE and SOUND. It would make no sense for any editing program to suppress audio controls.

I watched Youtube videos on this and the obvious was stated with using select tool and shortcuts yet this did not work with CS6; in addition the so-called experts also was not able to control all the track heights (only some) and this is not true. I also had read some lengthy articles that suggest rendering video/audio effects etc that was way too complicated to perform this basic editing function. Ignore all that and just look for those tiny arrows!

    Happy Editing!

Although this post is 2 years old, I’d thought I’d contribute because I’m one of those people that update software versions VERY LATE in the game (to avoid bugs).

I recently updated to FCP v.6 and most of my files updated normally to v.6 but my bigger projects (about 130 MB in size) refuse to load and just QUITS during the updating process. I tried numerous times and tried some of the tricks on this site: which didn’t work.

So I did a very interesting thing:

I just clicked “update” and although under the Force Quit window I see the message in red “Final Cut (not responding), I ignored it and went on to do my other business online.

After ignoring the message for about 10-15 minutes: the whole file loaded correctly!

I think that in my case, the file was not corrupt but that it was just VERY LARGE so it took awhile. My project had a million fine cuts in it (for a 2 hour project).

Summary: so although some projects “hang” and seem to crash the program, it could be that the software is taking longer ot read it.

    Hope this helps.

November 2, 2009 at 8:37 pm in reply to: Aliased Jagged Text

    Hi,

I realize that this post is a year old. But I just upgraded to V6 of FCP and encountered the exact same problems with basic text generation (Boris). Text looks smooth on canvas but jagged during playback.

I ran a quick test by exporting a short 2 second clip to Quicktime. I changed the default export to “uncompressed 10 bit” and it worked. So I exported my entire file using that settings and all my text is smooth again. I never had this problem prior to v6 so I don’t know if the upgrade had anything to do with basic text editing.

I am working with SD 720×480/ Mac 10.5/ 4 gb ram/ Macbook pro/ no external monitoring.

I hope this helps although I cannot say it its an exact solution. I just know that this simple export worked for me.

Good luck for others who encounter this.
