I think I was going at this from the wrong way. I have changed my sequence settings to square pixel, and distorted the DV pixel footage to fit. I think this should work for my needs today.

But it still doesn’t explain why FCP was exporting square pixel footage for a DV pixel timeline…

First off, I apologize if I was unclear. I have footage that was ripped from a DVD that is now square pixel, not DV footage with square pixel.

In the end I am taking this sequence into AE and overlaying it on a larger square pixel video as a background, and my final output will be square pixel. I am trying to get this sequence, which is mostly DV footage into the final composition and have it not distorted.

The current settings in my FCP sequence is:
Frame Size: 640×496 (I have distorted all my DV footage in the timeline with motion properties to try and maintain the correct visual once in AE, and this distorted size allows me not to lose any edges)
    Pixel Aspect Ratio: NTSC-CCIR 601
Field Dominance: None (I have de-interlaced all interlaced footage, as it will go with progressive media once in AE)
    29.97
    Apple Pro Res

I have been exporting through Quick Time Conversion and have tried used Apple Pro Res and Uncompressed, both result with a 640×496, 29.97, square pixel aspect ratio output.

Wow! I think this might be what I am looking for! Thank you!

Oh, I was afraid someone would say that. Got someone else to bring in a Mac PSD and it works! Thanks!

It should do that. When I import, it’s just coming in as a file, not a nested sequence.

haha! Immersive Media. I do all my editing and graphics in Final Cut and After Effects, but all the rest is completely proprietary software. Makes for some interesting headaches.

I have to believe someone out there has made a filter I can put on an Adjustment Layer in AE that will warp images to maintain once wrapped in a sphere, but I’m starting to think this might be another proprietary project…

Unfortunately I don’t think that one will work for me. I am not creating standard video with an panoramic background. I am creating spherical video and trying to add graphics. Will continue my search in the land of algorithms…

Do you know of a program that can achieve this effect? I can’t seem to find anything.

I have and I downloaded the demo version. I thought it was going to work, but it is the same issue that it will make equirectagular images rectilinear, but I can’t go the other way and warp regular 2D images into an equirectangular space.

Yes, I do. Is there a way to create an image sequence?
